...I like to celebrate the death of one of humanities most outrageous conmen.

To be fair, I never liked Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in Changing Rooms either.

I can't wait. I gave up crisps for Lent and I'm desperate for a packet. Will be a proper crisp feast on Friday.

My wife gave up chocolate for the same period, that has also been unbearable for me!
Bit late now, but a mate once told me that Sunday's didn't count in Lent, so you could've knocked yourself out every week on crisps...

So, if you say 'Easter' you get arrested and thrown in jail. Not even allowed to finish your chocolate egg, either ?
These days, yeah.

Our great Christian festivals have become ruined, so ruined by modernity and commercialism ???

- Easter used to mean so much to so many people who would spend Good Friday getting deep emotional fulfilment from eating home made hot cross buns, eating lots of delicious chocolate, getting pissed and looking forward to the rising of the Great White Easter Bunny.

Now Hot Cross buns are mass processed lumps of stodge with soggy raisins and millions upon millions of rabbits are dying from Hemorrhagic Fever. Climate change has meant wet, rainy bank holiday weekends so no guzzling shit loadsa beer on the beach or in the garden and doctors are now taking to MSM to stop us eating a whole Easter egg ffs.

No wonder some desperate folk feel driven to go to Church at Easter to seek solace at the loss of what once was a deeply meaningful festival

Sorry was the buns and rabbits a joke or is there some link that's evaded me?

That comes across as a rather cutting response to a very light hearted post! You see no link between buns and rabbits and how people celebrate Easter?

Guess you are not big on irony - a subtle form of joking 🙄

Neither here nor there
I prefer Easter to Christmas in many ways. Four days off at a time of the year when nature is coming back to life and there's a sense of positivity and anticipation in the air.

I can see why pagan communities felt like celebrating this period and why the Christian church decided it would be a good festival to latch on to.

Best wishes to believers who find spiritual meaning in the Easter holiday ... and to atheists like me who find it an uplifting time for other reasons.

Didnt celebrate easter until a few years ago when me and my girlfriend made it a tradition to watch zombie movies for the entire weekend. Had a mate who thought it was disrespectful but theyve been celebrating zombie Jesus for centuries so why cant I celebrate zombies

Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead
Wake up, you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the wicked witch is dead!

Ok, maybe he wasn't a wicked witch. Maybe just a naughty boy. But some of his followers...

Apologies to any non Christians offended by my forthcoming post (it's not lost on me when we did a poll on what peoples first names were who posted on here and Muhammed was a clear winner) but we would like to wish everyone a happy, peaceful and prosperous Easter. All kicks off today , one of the great days of the year Holy Wednesday, and then Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Eve, Easter Day and Easter Monday. So much to look forward to, it is a truly great time of year. So whatever you are doing and however you are celebrating Happy Easter folks.

The feast day of Easter was first a pagan holiday of renewal and rebirth (and Christmas is based on the pagan holiday of Saturnalia). So you should be apologising to non-pagans. :ROFLMAO:

Last year, I briefly dated a lady who turned out to be a zombie.

When we broke up, she fell apart.

Can someone explain how it seems known that Jesus was born on 25th December but the date of his death varies every year?
