Not sure where you got that impression from. I thought I was being clear that I remember Charlton fans moaning for a few years that their season was over by February, out of the cups and safe in the league by February. The very essence of “Be careful what you wish for!” They sacked Curbishley because they were bored, got relegated, disbanded the Ladies team which was going well and have never been back.

I got that impression from you replying to my post about how we should use the rest of this season to turn our inexperienced players into experienced players with this:

Stop all that talk of our season is virtually over, out of the cups, not getting relegated, not gonna get into europe. I vividly remember Charlton fans saying the same thing and look at them ever since.

I didn't say anything about being bored, I didn't say we should sack the manager. I'm baffled that you're putting those kinds of words in my mouth. All I said is that we should take this opportunity to blood in our less experienced players like Baleba and Verbruggen so we're stronger for next season. Did you actually read past the first sentence of my post before you quoted it and replied to it?

I'll leave it there as we're clearly talking at cross purposes.

My apologies, I did read past the opening sentence but I am afraid it was that that triggered me! It has been a pet hate for a while and I can see it coming, it’s inevitable. Someone posted this morning that they weren’t interested in the Europa Conference! I don’t think they were being ironic.

Ah okay, that's not how I meant it at all. I actually see it as a positive thing, we've basically got some "bonus prep time" for next season. I really want us to use it wisely, which means getting loads of minutes for players who've had too few.

I mentioned Verbruggen and Beleba, but I'd also like to see a lot more of Barco over the remaining games. And I've been impressed enough by Baker-Boaitey's occasional cameo appearances to want to see more of him, too (I could end up being wrong about this, but I've got a feeling he might just be another Brighton hidden gem).
When you add in the rumours that we're preparing for a big summer transfer window, I feel like we could achieve something next season that outstrips even last season and I want us to start getting ready for it now.

We are still almost certainly one of the best run clubs in the world. If not the best, pound for pound. No oil money, no billionaires, just did it with thanks to an exceptionally devoted owner. Truly an outlier in a sea of crap, sportswashing and corruption. We’re not the only ones, but we should be proud that our club truly is special.

Great post - And that is why traditional Brighton fans are special too imo - with a relationship to the owner and executives forged out of shared sense of our historical struggles and lowly beginnings 🙂

OK it seems our European jaunt may be over this year but we have done better than expected. Who ever thought we would win it anyway? This club has nothing, I repeat NOTHING to be ashamed of and every reason to be proud. Our manager is doing a brilliant job.
This. When I saw us draw Ajax, Athens and Marseille in our group I would have been happy finishing 3rd and dropping into the Conference let alone winning it!

Last night, we played with the big boys and were probably not quite ready to do that just yet.

The irony is that might have worked better. Ajax held Villa (who we obviously would not have played) 0-0, so at least have a chance against the clear favourite for the cup. It bugs me rather that Marseille also won 4-0; you begin to wonder if Pedro might have done a greater service launching into row Z.

We have to learn to walk before we run. So far the journey has been steady progression with a few bumps on the way, just as PBOBE quite often describes it.

It’s right to be disappointed with last nights result but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Perfect time for us to play Liverpool. With the players we have , we can piss on their league bonfire as well.

I don’t think I have lost any perspective. This season has been the most amazing ever, mainly because the European adventures, but I also think that with the schedule and injuries to be still in with a shout of doing it again next season is an incredible achievement. Especially if we look how other teams did in their first time in Europe. hopefully we can get some players back from injury and playing less games put out a more settled team. Then who know what can happen. I am going to block out the media nonsense and look forward to the last 10 games we have. Then see what happens at the end of the season.

The title should be "Have SOME Brighton fans lost perspective" Please don't lump us all in together. we got to the 1/4s of the FA Cup and Europa League, we are safely in the top ten of the PL so I for one and I suspect one of a majority am really astonished at how it has all come together in lets face it a few short years after near obliteration. I think the issue many of us have is that we are still and probably always will be a feeder club which means we will always be playing catch up. But then that is true for all but a few teams.

The thread title was coined several weeks ago in the context of there being at least 8 or 9 threads popping up post Roma away, that were overly negative/making up rumours about RDZ, scapegoating Individual players, dissing the squad, even Tony Bloom.

It was anyway only a general question thrown into the ether, so don’t take as a personal criticism and please don’t try and provide an answer to the thread question for the majority of NSC members as if you are representing us, we can all only speak on behalf of ourselves.

Glad to hear you are a bit more positive though about where the team is at than where you were a few weeks ago …😉

And where you were before we beat Roma 1:0 last week
Mate nothing I said previously was bashing the club or anyone involved with it, rather commenting on our present situation which for where we are is not ideal, its rather telling that in your cherry picking of my comments, you avoided the positive things I have said recently or where I have pointed out that we are in very good hands etc etc. also as to "trying to provide an answer to the thread blah blah blah". if you look closely I clearly state that I suspect I am only one of a majority on here. The thread title is clearly hyperbolic I was just pointing that out as you don't seem to be aware

Seriously - take a chill pill because a/ I haven’t a clue what you’re on about and b/ it is just looking like you came on this thread to bait an unnecessary nit-picking argument. It was perfectly reasonable to ask if we have lost perspective a few weeks back because it looked as if we were (as a general fan group) certainly beginning to and some folk were feeling upset that NSC was being swamped with different threads criticising the Club, Tony Bloom, our squad, individuals and our Coach etc. Inviting positive comments (as opposed to negative ones) was purely to provide a counter and give folk a chance to celebrate some of the good stuff as a reminder of how well we are doing as a club. As for you ‘suspecting’ that you are speaking for the ‘majority’, or explaining what the ‘issue is for most of us‘ and accusing me of being ‘hyperbolic’, this thread is not a ‘me versus what the rest of NSC thinks discussion’, so please don’t try and turn it in to one Mate. Check out Paul barbers last interview warning fans not to ‘lose perspective’ and that ‘we are in a good place” - that is all that is happening here.
Hahaha, me take a chill pill!!! It was you who got all butt hurt and trolled through my previous posts and cherry picked some to try and make a point, after I simply pointed out how over the top your thread title was. Mate 😄

FWIW, I’m with you. It is a very hyperbolic thread title.

Football team loses important football match and fans make rash comments in the heat of the moment. It was ever thus.

Don’t disagree with your wider point but just being a pedant to point out we didn’t reach the 1/4’s of the FA Cup or Europa League - last 16 of both.
