As I recall, Life of Brian was very popular at my theological college (the DVD certainly sits on my shelf), and is actually used on a course there. And I asked for, and received, the Father Ted box set for Christmas this year.
Oh, and don't mention Father Ted. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.

You do realise that many religious groups protested against the film, regardless as to whether or not they had seen it? There were also strict laws against blasphemy in some US States, and the film had to be careful not to cross the line.

Not quite the same, but have you watched Four Lions? Very funny. It was a while ago that i watched it, so may be wrong. But I recall that, like Life of Brian, it is not taking the piss out of the religion as such, but out of those that follow it (or object to it?) without any real understanding.

You’re correct. He set up the production company, funds came from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson) too.
Led Zeppelin and Floyd also funded The Holy Grail.
