Why pluck that arbitrary figure out of thin air ? What about the banked money from recent sales ? Is that £100m in addition? The club won’t be focusing on an overall spend, simply about getting in suitable players that fit the profile.

Seems to be a honest interview to be fair to him. Points out his own responsibility in our results.
People may say it’s only an extra 7 games but as is rightly pointed out that eats in to recovery time and preparation times for 7 PL fixtures. All the managers in Europe say the 3 games a week line. Nothing to be irate about. They are just pointing out the extra workload it is for themselves and there players. Takes a lot to play those 3 games in 8 days and still be at your best level especially with the injuries we have had. Bigger squads can rotate. We havnt had that luxury much.
What really stands out in our squad currently is lack of players that are really in there prime years as such. Mitoma and March are both injured and pervis is the other. Most of the squad has never played European games before neither. Most of the team that played the other night would not have played in an atmosphere like Roma on a European night. Whole season has been a big learning experience. Think RDZ really is just trying to say if we want to keep having these experiences the whole club has got to continue to progress and not stagnate.
I’m hopeful no one is in for any of the squad we want to keep and if we make the uefa conference league we push on and add to the squad. With all the FFP implications for potentially 8/9 of the PL teams we might be able to pad the squad out with better quality at a better price.

It’s not arbitrary, I think the players we need to sign will cost that much.
The club owe TB £400m+ and vast amounts of money are being spent on a fan zone and then in all probability, the upgrades to take us to a 32k capacity stadium. We have a recruitment system that means we don’t have to factor in ‘money from recent sales’ especially this summer with the likes of Dahoud, Sima and Undav likely to go.
It is arbitrary - we could easily spend a lot more than that if opportunities arise, and quite probably will spend a lot less (whether we qualify for Europe will have an impact).
Building the fanzone will have zero impact on whether we sign anyone. Barber has expressly said - this week - the club would like to return a bit of money to Tony, but is under no pressure to do so. The factoring in of current profits was in relation to your arbitrary figure - if you’re saying that’s gross spend then maybe, maybe not

I don't disagree, I just feel like he hit different levels last season. Maybe it is because other factors are at play this season such as no Pervis and other teams doubling up on markers etc.

You're rightm but I think it's considerably more than that. Our net transfer spend over the last 2 seasons is approx -140m, and that doesn't include the compo for Potter and Ashworth, which will add a further 25m. So a very tidy 165m up overall.
There is a difference playing Roma away and Rochdale away. Physically and mentally. Most teams struggle the first time they are in Europe.

I mean there’s more to it than just transfer spend, but 22/23 figures (which should be coming out soon) are likely to show a profit of around 100m for last season, and we’ll probably have similar for this season, if not a bit more with extra 20m from Europa.Which means, based upon selling a star for £50m every year, we don't need to sell any for 3 years by which time we will be champions of Europe and no-one will want to leave.
Also, we should get something like 30m for combination of Undav, Sima and Dahoud if their loans are made permanent. All in all, I’m not sure that we won’t need to sell anyone from the current set of regulars to fund new signings (unless they force a move).

Just for the record as we talk about things being better if we had a more conservative manager, or a less attacking "naive" manager, or had less injuries.
We are one point away from matching West Hams 40 point total last season, they had no such injury crisis and a more conservative manager, are 8th in the wage table to our 14th, they sold none of their starters and spent 150m in transfer fees, including Areola and Paqueta, they ended on GD of -13 and 14th in the table, and were fighting for their lives for long stretches.
First seasons in Europe is HARD, RDZ has had his two best players sold from under him, had an injury crisis we've never witnessed before to this extent, on a smaller budget and a much tougher run in in Europe than WHU had. RDZ is an elite manager.

I'm not buying this struggle in Europe thing.
We were doing great in the group stages both in Europe and the league. Everything was going swimmingly. From Jan to now it's all gone a bit Pete tong.
I don't agree with RDZ about not being ready for Europe as well. We topped the group and on another day we would have drawn or at the very worst had a narrow defeat Vs Roma. Everything went wrong on the night and our lucks completely out.
The £100m comment was in relation to the proposed spend, not what we've made.

Improvements to training ground (including purpose built facilities for the womens team).
Covering the constant losses the club made until the last couple of seasons.
I’m sure a DULLARD could give a proper break down.
But not '3 games a week' - just 3 in one week.
Even if it continued every week - Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. 7 games in 3 weeks.
