I think the war would stop now if Hamas surrendered, I don't think we would see a pursuance of war just to kill Palestinians. To me that seems to indicate that its not genocide but a war where civilians were always going to be killed because of the integration of Hamas fighters with their families. What we are seeing is two opposing groups fighting over land , one side is Muslim the other side a mixture but predominantly Jewish but also including arabs.

We had a exchange of views before early in the conflict and I said it would be wrong/not work out if Israel attacked Gaza, not because they didn't have the right to attack but because it would cause a massive problem and civilian deaths and Israel would always be seen as the aggressor even though they were attacked.
The war would also end if Israel stopped bombarding Gaza but I’m not sure the long term objectives Netanyahu has of creating a Greater Israel will end with a ceasefire 🤷‍♂️ I’m not keen to discuss further here because yes, you know my views, I think we are more aligned than separated on the subject - but this is not the thread to start up this discussion again the Israel/Hamas thread is. I just wanted to clarify the definitions of ’Genocide’.

What I’m finding a little chilling though is not only Galloway’s return to Parliament but Sunak using the illegal behaviour of a very small minority of muslim extremists as a general attack on pro-Palestinian demonstrations and urging the police to ‘do more policing’ of demonstrations because our democracy is ‘being torn apart’ - it feels like Cruella‘s dog whistling part II to me - a way of turning a politically very uncomfortable growing public support for the people of Gaza back towards the Government’s policy of backing Israel.

That to me is the biggest threat to democracy - what appears to be a hyperbolic, knee jerk reaction by the Prime Minister to the Rochdale by-election.

The beheaded babies claims were debunked months ago. You just don't follow the news do you?

If you are someone who uncritically swallows Israeli army propaganda, I think you are an extremist

In this case it wasn't even the IDF that made these claims but some nutty Israeli group

Indeed. Not sure whether you saw this piece of investigative work where the source of these stories including the mass rape ones was examined. i.e the major IDF claims were written by a former IDF employee with zero history of journalism.

Galloway is a bit of a useful idiot, he's got some discussion going here. I think it's not entirely bad that we have people like this around, he seems quite like the colleague (in a school of medicine) who suggested that people like me have their throats cut or are driven into the sea. He clearly represents a view that's prevalent, even on here. I'm sure he will bring peace, harmony and brotherhood.

Highly divisive and opportunist character who hasn't got many friends left from his traditional political home.

Loves a legal threat too and was never one for debate.

He very much isn't Jeremy Corbyn, loves the limelight, expensive suits and beard dye too much. I've never been able to trust a politician that vain.

Rakes in half a million a year promoting himself.

The praise Nick Griffin has been piling on him on social media would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

Luckily Rochdale won't have to put up for him for long.

Well, follow the latest controversy over New York Times reporting of sexual abuse claims, they are having to withdraw a lot of it

Meanwhile, there have been numerous accredited reports of systematic sexual abuse of Palestinian women in Israeli custody. Does this get you as angry as you appear to be in the above post? If not, why? Are Palestinians human beings to you?

As for your claim that the rapist scum are “getting everything they deserve”. Actually what is happening is the systematic extermination of between 30 to 40 thousand civilians, the majority of which are either children or women.

Although everyone is fixating on Galloway, worth mentioning that the guy in second place a local small businessman nobody had heard of, got second. It was the worst joint performance by Tories/Labour since some election in Scotland in the Second World War.

Galloway is a symptom, not the story. The story is both main parties are useless. My opinion? Nope the data backs it up

The thing is, that would have been your assessment before the poll. Then he went and won. That changes nothing for you? People voting is irrelevant?

Ok, clearly can’t see the truth if it hit you in the head.
Tell your rapist mates to return the hostages and the bombing will stop. You are probably the kind of guy who thinks the UNRWA did a wonderful job

More than naïve. Pathetic! Left wing attacks on labour, as per usual. Thatcher stopped councils spending what they like and sending the bill to HMG.

We have a poor givernment that has done great harm in the last 14 years. And yet elements on the left seem more concerned about the possibility of (the traitor) Starmer becoming PM.

f***ing weird, as well as pathetic.
All of this.

Some on the left would rather be thought of as ideologically pure than have the country governed by adults.

Things that have happened under the Tories, that wouldn’t have under a Starmer led Labour:

Brexit
Partying in 10 Downing St while the rest of us were locked down / dying
Wasting millions on Rwanda
Strikes in every sector
Economy crashed.
Major government positions rotated more often than some people change their pants
Cabinet / Senior positions for fascists.

And that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head.

But, yeah, they’re all the same 🙄

Oh sorry was that too many facts for you? The United Nations are indeed our only hope. It amazes me people like you brazenly post cheering on genocide, the open slaughter of women and kids that is all being filmed and recorded — but of course this is why fascism happened in so many countries, take a bow

I’d find this kind of conclusion much more understandable had the Labour candidate lost so heavily while being backed by the Labour Party

No, but we've been here before with Galloway, on the other side of the coin is Farage. Brexit won the vote, but it hasn't changed my view on it.

Both characters know how to gain an advantage in a divisive environment.

I'm sure you've read the dual letters that were delivered to Rochdale voters ?

UNWRA who had Hamas terrorists working for them?

Galloway who admires fascist Putin and is admired by fascist Griffin?

I'll raise you that Labour took control of Wandsworth Council. A watershed moment for the Tories that day.

It's a cake and eat it area. Vote in a Labour MP because you couldn't bear to tell your yoghurt knitting work colleagues that you support the Tories.

Secretly vote Conservative in the locals to ensure your council tax is the lowest in the country.

Well they didn't and it sent out and a strong message. The only message on the door from the Tories (they were quite open on how bad the Government was) was the fear of a council tax rise.

They lost control. That result said two things to me.

1) Locally are so pissed off by the Tories they will send that message out locally and absorb a potential council tax rise.
2) Labour under Starmer will get a large majority at the next election and you and Owen Jones are gonna have to suck it up.
