If I’m entirely honest I think I’d rather the odd European campaign and a couple of cups under Bloom than 10 league titles whilst being used as a puppet to clear up the blood soaked image of a foreign dictatorship.

It seems to be about making us worse rather than making Chelsea stronger. We both inhabit the same area of the Premier League now. We are their direct rivals now, not Arsenal, Spuds, Liverpool and Citeh. They are trying to beat us ‘off the pitch’ now. A very American solution to the problem of them being much worse than us.

They’ll have binned Jewell off by 2026 and we all know it.

Right now we are playing some of the best football in the Premier League, have a plethora of really great young players and BHA Ed is a renowned place for talent to progress. It's simply not regression imo, anyone expecting progression to be linear - ie better every season -is deluded. We'll have seasons of over performance (last season was, massively) and those where we don't do so well. Overall the long term trend remains on the up....

I'm super relaxed about Jewell going. I actually see it as an opportunity to get someone in who can take the role to the next level. Reading on the immediate succession plan the new role holders have a great CV and can probably do even more with Tonys supporting tools and network. Fresh blood can be hugely positive to bring in even more quality thinking. approach, and experience. The data is still going to spit out the right suggestions for in scope players.

Progress is never going to be constantly achieved, sometimes we will have to go backwards to move forward again. There aren’t many clubs in the world that could source ready made replacements for Mac Allister and Moises and be guaranteed they’d hit the ground running. We may have gone slightly back performance wise this season, but we are only 4 points behind where we were last season. Take that into account along with the fact we lost 2 of our best players, have had a terrible injury record (as have a lot of clubs) and we’ve successfully navigated our way through to the last 16 of our first ever European campaign and I’ll certainly take that as a sign most of what we do on and off the pitch is right and there is still every chance we can qualify for Europe next season. Surely that would still be progress for a club like ours?
