Slightly off topic

I just read a remarkable thing on X - don't know if it's true or not.

Southampton are going for their 10th consecutive home win tonight v Hull, managed of course by our own Liam Rosenior.

The last time they did it, was in 2011 (Nigel Adkins can you keep up?) against Hull and Rosenior was in the Hull team.

AND the referee for both games is the same!

Sarmiento hooked at half time. Didn’t play well apparently despite Ipswich winning. My Ipswich supporting mate is really not impressed with him and he does know his football. His words tonight were “what is Brighton’s plan for Sarmiento? He doesn’t look anywhere near good enough for the Premier League.”

They've only played 80 minutes.

Ayari started for Blackburn at Cardiff - substituted by Moran on 57 minutes. Weir played the full 90 for Port Vale. Vale fans still convinced they're being fobbed off with a rookie not ready for League1 (presumably the 68 League1 games before he joined them don't count!)

24/2/24.
Not a great day for our Championship outfield players - all three of them bench-warming. Our two excellent young keepers both keep their starting places though.
League1 rather better - Leonard, Hinchy and Weir all start; Samuels stil on the bench. In League2 Turns keeps his starting place in the heart of the Crewe defence.

This is from the Northampton Chronicle player ratings, for Marc Leonard.
"Running out of superlatives to describe his performances. He's a top end Championship player masquerading in League One. Even in such a frenetic, physical contest and on a difficult pitch he showed his class. So composed and technically a level above everyone else. Almost toyed with Burton at times. Also scored his fourth goal in six games, even if this one did owe a lot to luck. One of the best to ever wear the shirt... 9"

Interesting summer for Leonard.

L1 to the Prem is a Herculean jump but at 22 is he going to want to go out on loan again?

If we qualify for Europe again would be count as home grown at the club?

Yes, been at Brighton since 2018, when he was 16, so has the required 3 years before the age of 21.

Nice to see that at least one of our current loanees is A). doing well and B). Is appreciated by the fans - it hasn't been going so well for many of them this season. West Brom and Coventry fans couldn't wait to get rid of Sarmiento and Ayari; Blackburn are turning against Moran, and Port Vale fans are wondering why they're being lumbered with a Blackpool reject.
At Sheffield Wednesday, young Beadle is apparently even worse than their own inadequate GK that he was brought in to replace; his kicking is terrible (I think in Owls-speak this means he doesn't hoof it half way into the opponent's half - you know, 'proper' football!) - the fact that he's kept 3 clean sheets out of 7 - no mean feat in a struggling team - seems to have passed them by!
It seems a long time since the likes of White, Gyokeres, Van Heckle (POTS at Blackburn, IIRC), Ostigaard and Clarke were getting rave revues from fans at the host club!
At least Swans fans seem to appreciate Rushworth, and Crewe fans seem quite pleased with Turns so far - and Rangers fans wanted to keep Sima too.

So pleased for Leonard who seems the model pro and has undoubted quality.
Will be very, very interesting to see what happens in the summer.
For a club like ours 22 seems relatively old but for a CM is really isn't. I'm reminded of Lampard in particularly who joined Chelsea at 22/23 and before that, though clearly much more experienced than someone like Leonard, I don't think anyone really saw him as world class. It was the next couple of seasons where his game really shifted up a few levels.
We know Leonard was the closest player statistically to Caicedo last season, and this season he's clearly stepped up a level and is now also thriving in a much more advanced position. Could he be a late bloomer and contribute next season?
