3G pitch on the old entrance and a swimming pool in the car park - you might need a new entrance through the nature reserve.

Not everyone hated Withdean at all. I think an awful lot of people were very happy to have the Albion back in Brighton & Hove. A decade+ in Gillingham would have killed the club - no doubt about that.
Yes, I exaggerated a little. I was one of them in the first few years. The return to Brighton co-incided with good times on the pitch under Micky Adams and remains one of my favourite times supporting the Albion. After those initial few years the novelty wore off for me and I couldn’t wait to leave. The lack of proper match day experience and atmosphere made home games a chore although we continued to go, probably more out of habit than anything else.

Right….this….This is why I’m totally puzzled at the stories/rumours/anecdotal evidence that they’re are some that only go to matches to get a few loyalty points (or whatever they’re called)

It was a fun time and a totally different experience. I wouldn't say I miss Withdean but I can certainly reminisce fondly about our time there.

Yeah, this is where I am. It was a wholly different experience compared to the Amex, but it felt different. It was a naturally tighter-knit community, it was low expectations and often backs against the wall stuff, but it was brilliant compared to the years that had come immediately beforehand.

I’m not sure I understand the link you are making. These days demand outstrips supply. We mostly didn’t have that problem at Withdean.
No real link, your comments just got me thinking regarding some I made on another thread.
It implied that some were at Sheffield (and other matches) purely for loyalty points with Europe pending (thus supporting the team becomes secondary)
You said, something along the lines of, we continued to go despite it being a chore.
and that re enforced my point that a lot of us used to go back in the day regardless of how shit it was but there was no incentive apart from cheering on the lads and hoping for a point or even three

Got it. Yeah, you make a good point. I can’t imagine traipsing across the country just to earn points to go to a different match. For me it’s about the love of watching the Albion, regardless of the opponent or even the quality (or lack of) of our team. That’s never changed and going to Hartlepool etc was every bit as rewarding as the fancy dan clubs we now visit. I suppose newbies now though live in a different Albion era where lack of points means no access to the London games which you and I have been to in past times. One good side effect is large away followings all around the country but I wasn’t taking that view when frantically clicking the buy button for Liverpool tickets this morning !

FFS how will I end up in a situation where I don’t have enough loyalty points for a home game

We are experiencing the best time in the clubs history and people are missing Withdean...
I don’t think you should take this thread too seriously, nobody would trade in what we have now for what we had then.

It’s just called nostalgia and how we perceived things then.

I’ve had a good life and I’ve eaten in some good restaurants in the past, but I have fond memories of a Corned Beef and Piccalilly sandwich I had in 1979. I lived in Birdham Rd and my family literally didn’t have a pot to piss in so my older brother went and shoplifted the contents from the Mace in Moulsecoombe Way, when you hadn’t eaten for two days it tasted like Lobster Thermidor

[I’ve possibly gone right off on a tangent here!]
