Cucurella was 23 when he signed, a lot older and more experienced than Baleba.

So a value signing then £17m well spent. £20m for a kid who only played a few games in France seems reckless and I think his performances to date have aligned with that. It’s annoying because we have been crying out for an experienced player in midfield to replace one of the two we lost in the summer.

Cucurellas cost was set by his release clause, had that not been there he’d have cost a lot more. We took advantage of that situation. It has no bearing on what we paid for Baleba as he was coming from a different market.

You can use Baleba as a stick to beat the current recruitment team, but the previous one got plenty wrong, and the current recruitment team signed Joao Pedro who looks an absolute bargain.

No recruitment team has a 100% success rate and it’s far too early to be judging Baleba. How long did it take Bissouma who cost a little bit less, but was 2 years older, to really start showing what he was capable of.

This is incredible short-termism on Baleba. Bissouma cost a similar amount and was very rough around the edges to begin with. By the time he had been smoothed out he looked a top 4 player and we made a tidy profit on him.

Give Carlos time, he's clearly got masses of potential and is still incredibly young.

Look at Gilmour. Nowhere near the starting 11 last year and now he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

Baleba could be the same next season.

Sorry just bored of this now, American intervention in a sport only for profit. It’s killing the merits of the game, and the traditions of the game, never will anyone be able to break the top 6, so Boehly can run Chelsea the super brand. Where is any small clubs chance of breaking this, it is being eroded.

Glad FFP is working as well, where Super Club Everton and Nottingham Forest gets a point deduction. Where as one club can swap players out to Saudi Clubs with associated owners to satisfy restrictions. Furthermore they buy one head of recruitment and when he ends up producing a load of cannon fodder, they just go and get another head of recruitment, and it just goes round again while two clubs get relegated through deductions for at least trying to challenge the cabal.

The immediate worry is, how's this going to effect our Summer window, which Jewell would have been heavily planning for. Who is next in line? Assume we'll have to recruit in, which will take time.

Plus, what are the chances of Chelsea swooping in on any of our planned targets? What's more, Chelsea fans seem to think this is them getting the ducks in order ready to approach De Zerbi in the Summer, based on an apparent (reported by Naylor) good working relationship between RDZ and Jewell.

Would be very concerning for the conveyor belt of South American youngsters from what we know

Jewell isn’t the important part of our recruitment. Our data is. Nobody is getting their hands on that.
Disagree - South American transfers have been built on a long period of work and trust with local agencies and contacts driven by Sam who learnt Spanish and spent long periods in the region.

Being able to navigate complex deals and understanding ownership models etc of players will take a long time to rebuild, if someone hasn’t already been involved

In what other industry would this happen? Jewell has been in position for about 2 years, hardly ‘expert’ status is it.
I’d be amazed if he didn’t have a significant garden leave period in his contract.
