Let's not forget that almost every player we've acquired in recent times has come from a club whose fans are also probably heartily sick of losing their best players to 'the likes of Brighton'. We are part of the football ecosystem that recycles talent upwards. We are not at the very top -- the Barcas, Citys, Liverpools et al, but we are in the bracket just below that. We are lucky to see these top talents arriving. Some will pass through, donating a large stack of cash as they go, and leaving us with thrilling memories. Others will stay. I don't want to lose these players but let's be grateful for the pleasure, success and wealth they bring to the club, and remember that every departure means an opportunity for another wonderful young talent.

Sometimes I think the club need to have a word with RDZ. In his post-match comments he seemed to say that 70 percent of Joao Pedro's best was good enough for us but that he would need to do better at a bigger club. And he keeps hinting that our players are on their way. That's not just down to poor translating.
Yes I've noticed the same. Is RDZ interpreting the club 'policy' literally? is he expressing frustration because he truly expects to lose them in the Summer? does he want them to be bought to demonstrate what a fantastic developer of young players he is?(which he is).

I'd prefer RDZ to say "I'll do everything in my power to keep Pedro, Ferguson, Mitoma, Adingra, Enciso...at this club because I believe we can achieve great things together ".

i suggest you suck it up.

Or if you'd prefer think of it as:-

What was a sea containing all professional clubs, taking our players.
Went onto become a pond containing many clubs.
To what it is now
A puddle containing a few clubs. for whom our players can leave.

Meanwhile our recruitment has gone in the exact opposite direction.
Brilliant illustration! 👏🏻

But the bottom bit goes against our policy and success of the last few years. And what can he do? Threaten to quit?

The exciting thing about Pedro is that he has room for quite significant improvement - first touch when receiving the ball into feet with back to a defender, general link up play and lastly performing/concentrating for 90mins. If he can improve on that we have some player.

Indeed, I know you are right...but there's a chance RDZ could get us into Champions League if Bloom let the club's policy morph that way - in some way I think the Summer window will tell us how Bloom sees the next couple of years.

Yes, fully agree. he is going to be some player, but like you, I have noticed that at times his first touch can let his overall play down.

I believe that TB did everything to keep Cucurella and Caicedo and they were always planned to stay longer. But as has been proven, if you have any confidence in your overall plan, when somebody offers silly money, it would be absolutely crazy not to take it and reinvest in it.

And I wonder if we will see the same level of hugely inflated bids disturbing our long term plan over the next couple of windows ???

And back on JP, brilliant player but you can still see areas he could improve (and at 22, undoubtedly will)

Yes, that's true. I was forgetting the fact that our players may actually want to leave sunny Brighton if offered x3 or x5 wages 🤦🏼‍♂️, and I can't blame them. Then it's all about getting the highest price possible.

Good point about receiving the ball, and first touch. From memory (which is all we have at the mo ) Julio is really good at that.
