The ONS estimates that 91.9% of adults in England have antibodies against COVID.

Good news but I would be interested in understanding how those figures are derived and why if they are that high there is still such high numbers of new cases. I know antibodies do not stop you getting COVID but one would have hoped 92% 'cover' would not just mean it is less serious but its also less common.. Are they including people who have had it but not jabbed?

Blimey that's really quite a number - surely case numbers will start to fall soon if that's the case?

Given that many of the 9% without antibodies you would expect are behaving sensibly and taking relevant precautions I think you are right we can hopefully see the peak rather sooner than we were anticipating.

It will surely be partly because the antibodies produced are from vaccines designed to protect against the original virus rather than the variant. As such they won't protect so much... I guess that's as far as we can go on the good news thread with that!

could be worded a different way ...............

all viruses mutate hundreds / thousands of time
the mutations are mostly no issue / less dangerous

then it is good news

Nine in 10 30-year-olds in UK have Covid antibodies

Number of young adults with protection against the virus now beginning to equal older age groups, says ONS

Ninety per cent of people aged 30 across the UK now have protective antibodies to Covid, official statistics show.

Younger age groups were only recently eligible for vaccination and the recent expansion of Covid vaccines to all adults means the level of antibodies, which are made by the immune system and protect against the virus, is continuously increasing.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published on Wednesday show that nine in 10 of all adults in the UK had antibodies as of July 4, as a result of either past infection or vaccination.

As a result of restrictions on vaccinating young people, the level of antibodies has been much lower in these groups. However, the data show that they are now beginning to catch up, and as of July 2, 90 per cent of people aged 30 in England had antibodies.

This threshold was passed for 40-year-olds on June 9, and for over-60s.

Was quite amusing in the Guardian live feed earlier, this number was reported as a positive thing and a possible fall in cases, someone must've spotted that it doesn't follow the party line so they changed it to the 7 day average with an apology! [emoji38]ol:
God you're right, you can feel the disappointment in the tone of the live blog that the cases are down again today on last Friday.

A bit of a sad state of affairs when the Guardian being pissed equates to Coronavirus good news but here we are. Some encouraging signs today. Fingers crossed the reopening doesn't cause another huge surge.
