This is the million dollar question and the key. The owners of United and Liverpool seem to think they don't need real competition but can put on a show wearing a red shirt and that will generate safe income. Are they right?

No. Their players won't fight at the end of a match to get a result, if the result doesn't matter. And equally, their fans won't enjoy it if the result doesn't matter.

We have however to recognise that United have an argument that it's their audience and revenue paying for the rest.

This is just weird one of the founder clubs posting criticism through its own Twitter page. The manager then asking the president of the committee to explain the decision when he could just ask his boss.

Not really, they are advertising his press conference the website as they always do. The message in the tweet is "this needs to be explained" rather than, "it's not sport".

Liverpool have apparently edited Klopps' press conference from yesterday on the website.

I don't know, but clearly the people who run those clubs think they can keep the international audience / revenue without the Premier League. Look, I also don't like it. The idea of no relegation takes out half the fun out football for me. But because we don't like something isn't the point. The point is whether United can walk and take their TV money. For my part, I don't really care that much if they can. I'm willing to say cheerio whilst feeling sorry for their fans from Manchester. Then we can play Palace and Portsmouth in a properly competitive game while Man United are just a show team. Either way, is the status quo a possibility? I'm not sure it is. There is change afoot, driven by a justifiable desire of United (a quoted company that has to account to shareholders) to keep what they think is their revenue. What that change is, perhaps is the question.

JP Morgan initially, (£3 Billion plus promised) after that I'm sure there will be numerous broadcasters around the world bidding for the rights to show it .. should it get off the ground, which I doubt.

This is huge news. Our Chelsea correspondent, Jacob Steinberg, reports that Chelsea are preparing a communication to the European Super League to tell them they are withdrawing. That will surely be the beginning of the end of the ESL proposals. Chelsea fans have begun to disperse so perhaps Cech really was relating news that the club were going to pull out.
