On NSC for over two decades...
I tried a tempo run today, a little over 4 miles at an average 7:05 minutes per mile. Much worse AG than [MENTION=33116]Garry Nelson's teacher[/MENTION] undoubtedly, but a step in the right direction.

Good to see you’re having fun mixing up the training. I also ran 4 miles but in 1 mile intervals with 2” recovery. Stamina needs working on, so went out trying to feel for the tempo pace that is on the edge of aerobic/anaerobic effort. Clocked 7:16, 7:16, 7:14, 7:14. Not sure I could run a good 5k yet. Will work on weekly extension of interval distance and total distance over the months before the potential Worthing 10k showdown.

Another magic mile pencilled in for the end of the month.

Nice work Gaffer! Looks like a really controlled consistent effort there. :thumbsup:

I ran back from Brighton yesterday. In many ways, this isn't significant. It was a 12.76 mile run door-to-door - a distance I exceed most weeks.

However, as a Worthing boy who has spent a lot of time in Brighton, and travelling between Worthing and Brighton, I'd only ever taken this journey by car and train. So, at the age of 49, to be able to just run from central Brighton to home so easily does feel more significant than the distance itself.

The reason I was in Brighton was running related too. On Tuesday's dog jog over the Downs, I was crossing a ploughed field that is covered in large flinty stones. I caught a stone with my leading foot and went over. My phone was in my hand and it went directly onto one of those stones and shattered the screen. So I was in Brighton to visit the Apple Store to get that resolved. I ran from home to West Worthing station, jogged down from Brighton Station to Churchill Square and then just ran home.

I'm really enjoying my running this week. I'm typing this now, at 23:50, and genuinely looking forward to getting up in six hours or so for another run over the Downs before breakfast.

I've perked up a bit myself now the kids are back at school, and have taken to going out for a lunchtime stroll on my non-running days.

I've also been cheered up because the Surrey Half has been moved again and no-longer clashes with Brighton Marathon, so I get to keep up my ever-present run!

In other running related news, the Barkley Marathons is on right now. Sounds like horrible weather and there will be no finishers this year.

Loved following Keith Dunn's tweets from the Barkley Bozza. The brutal weather has won again this year. I think Jared Campbell might be still out there somewhere on his third loop? Courtney Dauwalter completed 2 loops but over the 26 hours time limit. Such a brutal race. It's a shame due to the international travel restrictions most of the main overseas runners weren't able to make it this year.

Thanks Gaffer. I have a place in the Richmond Marathon which was moved to mid-May and they seem pretty confident it will go ahead. I'm feeling good running and adapting to the base volume over the last few months so I'm thinking of giving it a go. As Manchester 2019 was such a long time ago I think it would help me to get the experience of another marathon under my belt (and in my legs) before my A race at London in October. Richmond is 8 weeks away so I'd better start getting a bit more specific, incorporate a few more harder efforts and get the legs turning over a bit faster. :)

Hey Artie - my brother is running Richmond too (hoping for around 2:45) so will head down to watch it. Let me know your race number etc and i'll reserve a big SEAGULLS to cheer you on!

Ah that's awesome! All being well, I'll be hoping to be running in (or clinging onto) the 2:45 pack. :) Looking at the recent finishing times I think it's normally a pretty low-key marathon but as it will be one of the first London-based marathons to be going ahead since lockdown I think it will have a bumper attendance and some super rapid guys and girls at the sharp end.

Really chuffed with my run today - I'm getting stronger on the trails and not giving up as much pace on the ascents as I used to. An average of 8:10/mile over 10 miles of downland and just shy of 1,100 feet of climbing.

Feeling strong on the way back I went for a Strava segment in mile 10. It's a lumpy bumpy stretch of trail between two fields and still has some big mud patches to navigate. I absolutely stacked it (again) and have cut up a knee (again). It fells really sore right now, but it was only half an hour or so ago and I've not tried to clean it up yet.

Stunning day to be out on the downs if you're able to stay upright!

I'll kick off the weekend reporting with a bog standard 5k in 22.15 along a busy, windless and rather dull Worthing prom.

Lovely on Hove Prom as I cycled to Waitrose. Just having my third breakfast, so unlikely to get out before 12. Planning on 8 X .25 mile intervals just holding back.
Bumped into The Gasson yesterday, both of us in civvies, and told him my season plan was to chase him down over the mile. He reckons he's slowed down to 5:45 but I'm sure he'll have a bit extra if I ever get near his heels.

Went long with another 20 miles at a comfortable cruising effort banked this morning. Felt smooth clipping along. Back to bopping along tomorrow to make it a solid 90 mile week.

Have a good weekend of running guys! Hopefully we'll see a good performance and result tonight to make it a very good weekend!

My knee was still bleeding approaching bedtime due to the cut extending right across the middle of the kneecap, with the whole thing swollen and very sore. Last night was horrible - barely any sleep as any movement during sleep was agony and woke me up.

It's feeling a bit better today and whilst resting, ice and all that cliched stuff is clearly what is needed, I may try to hobble a mile out as late in the day as possible, to allow a few hours of improvement, to keep the streak alive.

Whilst I appreciate this is probably stupid, after 414 days of running every day, I don't feel like starting again. Checking back, the last time I ran fewer than 5 miles was 226 days ago on August 5th when I had a sore back after a camping break.

I'm somewhat annoyed that this injury is entirely self-inflicted, tanking along on very dodgy ground for Strava segment purposes, rather than the usual type of injury we can get.

Good effort, apart from wiping out, obviously. You’re right though, absolutely glorious on the Downs this morning.....did a slow14m chatty out and back with a mate from J&J windmills to the Youth Hostel and back. Views were fantastic, weather was perfect, trail was bone dry.

Made smile, mate. Slowing down to 5.45! What at 67 or so?? (Watch out - he might only be on 2 breakfasts.)
