The West Village is arguably my favourite place in the world. And Hectors in Meat Packing is nearby. Proper old school. What it lacks in looks It makes up for in character; for what it is, the food is great as well.

Can't beat breakfast in a bustling New York diner - full of life and energy, sets you up for the day. Wall Street types, fashion models, Mexican pizza delivery guys - all mixing with each other. Sometimes it's worth grabbing a seat at the bar rather than sitting down at the table, within minutes complete strangers will be treating you like life long friends and telling you all their secrets - love it.

A couple of years after 9/11four of us went. As I had played football with Robert Eaton we visited the still wrecked site. There were tears.
If money is no object a helicopter ride from Downtown Manhattan to Central Park is great. Our pilot was a Vietnam vet. Most brilliant and frightening thing I have ever done. My missus sat next to him and we had to prise her fingers off the door to get her back out lol.

We’re going next summer. I’ve haven’t been since I was a kid, when our trip included the observation deck of the old WTC.

My sister went to the old WTC a year before 9/11

It is for the boat ride (great views) and the visit to Ellis Island on the way back.
Hard to get, but try and get a ticket which takes you up to the crown.

Personally not really. Get the free ferry take your photos, then if you are quick you can get back on the same ferry you got over to go back to Manhattan

Good call about Top of the Rock. Go up dusk and you get awesome view of the city. Much more polished than the Empire State.

I can recommend a trip on the Roosevelt Island Tram - it hangs below the rail like a cable car and the views of NYC are amazing

Would agree - unless you’ve got a ticket to walk up to the top of the Statue it’s not worth getting off the boat really.

It is a myth that it is the City that never closes just try getting a decent meal around Times Sq after midnight without using a fast food Wendys or similar.
I’d vouch for that.
Also Top of the Rock is great as others have said.

Top of the Rock by night to see the skyline and Empire State, then Empire State by day to see New York, I would go to the Brooklands Bridge a great ice cream place underneath walk the high line a disused railway on stilts above the streets don't rush sit and watch the world go by, find a deli in the Grenage Village then sit in the park with all the locals, Times Square, Trump Tower, 9/11 Memorial, a river cruise to see Statue of Liberty, Central Park visit the John Lennon memorial just across from the Decota building, walk the streets look up and be amazed it's a great city very safe very friendly and all these sights are located in quite a compact area it's not as big as you might think you will be able to do all this in two days hope you have a great time.

When I last went there to watch Lennox Lewis at MSG we couldnt find anywhere after the fight plenty of bars but no actual restaurants. Perhaps we didnt look hard enough Loved walking down to Chelsea and the bars down there.
