It's not the same scenario is it.

How informed were the electorate for the first referendum?

How informed are they now?

I would say that they are substantially more informed now.

Surely that's grounds for another vote. It still might be leave.

Did the population understand the repecussions of this ridiculous exercise? Did the population get taken in by bullshit? Mogg and Johnson have BOTH changed their minds, but the electorate isnt allowed that luxury. Most of it was fuelled by xenophobia and racism, although now, apparently, all Brexiteers were against being controlled by the EU. Bullshit. Sorry, but that is Bullshit. Ive had 'chats' with halfwits on forums that believed all asians were going to be leaving. The history of brexit is all documented. This crap isnt even the hard part of leaving.

I'm not convinced a lot of Leavers know the facts now. Friends of mine, intelligent friends, are still talking about unelected bureaucrats, and the customs union meaning frictionless trade (it doesn't) and Switzerland not having a hard border etc.
Ask them the difference between the single market, and customs union, and they don't know.
I'm not saying this to be smug, as I've learned as I go along, and I still don't know the half of it.
Leaves biggest asset was using short memes telling lies. Take back control being one of the biggest imo.

MPs are now officially traitors to democracy - none of them are fit to govern our wonderful country. This isn't over..........................

This is just ridiculous. This isn’t MPs fault, it’s government’s fault. Calling a referendum with no basis of what Leave would look like. Triggering A50 with no idea what Leave would look like. Calling a general election and losing a majority. Negotiating a deal without consensus.

Referendum isn’t representative of our democracy. Parliament is. We’ve had very few minority governments, and this one couldn’t have come at a worse time for making such a siesmic decision - but that is our democracy, that is our control.

The only traitors to democracy are those prepared to put a referendum over 300 years of Parliamemt.

Bloody Worthing!
I know (and understand why) there were a number of (let's say affectionate) references to Waitrose and last week's pro referendum march. It's tempting to try to find the equivalent for yesterday's Brexit demo but at the very least it looked unedifying with Farage making incendiary remarks from his platform and Tommy Robinson simply being given a platform. Looking on the positive side, I think a handful of arrests evidences the fundamentally peaceful nature of protest in the UK given that people are very angry.

And this is the problem. Even arch brexiteer Michael Portillo agrees. Referendum in this country are a ****ing stupid idea because we haven't got a political system that works well with referendum.

I would prefer us to remain, but I can't readily support another referendum when having one in the first place was a ****ing stupid idea.

The will of the people ? The will of half the people without a chance to undo it at the next opportunity.

However - it isn't up to me or anybody else on here unless you are an MP. If we end up with one, I will vote the same way and pray a ****wit like Cameron never organises one again,

Do not forget Cameron thought it would be an easy win for Remain ,can not see he would want to get himself in a position he have to resign .

No. A minority very, very, very smug. Look like getting what they wanted, even though a majority of us didn't.

I want democracy but my sort of democracy!!!

Top ranting! Just wondering if the 286 MP's who voted for the deal are included in this sweeping statement? Also, how and who confers Official Traitor status on someone? Is it arbitrary or is there a vote on it?

People have been complaining about the EU for years so they are probably are the older ones ,but the younger people apparently who can`t remember far back would base their thoughts on more current times are Remain ,so who voted leave then ?. There was a lot of middle age /older people in the Remain march . Who were the people who believed the apparent lies told to them ? its a bit confusing !.

This is getting surreal. Remain mps getting the blame when it is brexiteers who voted against it. It is almost like they don’t actually want to leave just complain. If they are not prepared to vote for this they should have been clear in the referendum campaign that leave meant no deal, rather than spouting all this trade deficit, they need us more, German car companies blah blah blah.

Just to top it off we have mark Francois talking to the marchers as a hero for voting against leaving. Anyone who says “that is not the brexit I voted for” is missing the point that it was a binary choice. Leave or remain. They can’t now say “not that type of leave”

Sussex isn't affected by immigration at all. However many (usually forgotten) with little money who can't afford to buy a house because the prices have been sent through the roof by commuting "urban liberals". Those who have one don't want others to have one because it spoils the view,

Little to no public transport and get hit by petrol and car prices because "we are encouraging people not to use them".

You are 100% spot on, Brighton is a bubble within an area of discontent.

I'd vote for any political party that

1) Smashes in tax anyone selfish enough in London to run a car to subsidise those elsewhere you need one.

2) Smashes in tax anyone in London who owns a second home in Sussex.

Lastly, what's completely ****ed is that I have one of the lowest council taxes in the UK. Sorry ? how does that work ?

I think that is quite simplistic, Brighton is already "full" with ever increasing numbers of students, the housing problem will forever be as it is there all the time the city encourages more and more students to the city, see the massive increase in first year accomadation being built now, where on earth will all these people live in their second/third and even fourth years of their degree study?

A German point of view and yes after the politics,I WOULD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63IcW4eo4uM&feature=youtu.be

A friend in Germany sent me this..

The subtitles are correct. What is going to be very interesting is just how strong the vote will be in the EU elections. The AfD are already within one percentage point of being the second most popular party in Germany, and it is quite possible that they and the right wing parties from the other EU countries will get a majority in the EU parliament. Ironically it will be a real mistake if Britain aren't in the EU for those elections because things will change big time if the lefties get voted out. I don't see the EU collapsing as everyone is predicting, but I do see it changing direction if people vote for parties like the AfD. We live in hope
.A comment on German TV: "Every second programme is now about Brexit. Thank God there's a documentary on another channel about an operation on a burst intestine to cheer me up":

We had a referendum in the 1960’s when we joined the EU / common market. Move on 50 years, why shouldn’t the country be given a say again? The shambles that has followed shouldn’t stop the electorate having their say but I would leave referendums for another 50 years at least!

never taken a cent in dole money either in UK or Aus....always worked , always paid my way , as did my parents.....my dad is now gone and my mother was forced to sell her house to pay for care ......if she lives another 5 years she'll have literally nothing left , and yet the dislike of full time employment is widely discussed with regard to certain sections of society .....you may argue that immigration to Australia by Europeans has been to the detriment of the Aboriginal population , but the chances are that Indonesia would have wiped them out by now anyway ......i would argue that the magnitude and rapidity with which certain cultures have made ingress into the UK is an unprecedented and irreversible disaster which is going to have a radical effect on the lives of our grandchildren.

You’re an unpleasant man and I think you’re also a racist. Your comments about aboriginals are so badly informed. If it wasn’t so disgusting it’d be funny.
Good luck with that.

Agree that no one would’ve known the huge, costly and lengthy repercussions of trying to obtain Brexit.

A personal view, away from the bubble of Brighton (and London and the Czech Republic), is that a collosal proportion of the British population from East Kent, to the Fens, to northern towns, to Wales, were getting angrier and angrier about immigration and the effect on their communities over about 20 years. Borne out in voting patterns. Even Sussex outside of the large conurbations voted Brexit. We in Brighton just don’t see it, feel it, hear it. I’m not so sure that the bus telling us £m more for the NHS and other lies were telling. We’ll never know.

I've lived in Sheffield for 27 years. Yeah, there are plenty of immigrants but is it an issue? Not generally, provided you're not a racist.

One of my neighbours is from Moldova and he's the hardest working bloke I've ever met. When he's not working he's doing up his house for his lovely wife and kids. Puts me to shame tbf.

In Sheffield the vote was split exactly the same as the whole country. So I take great offence when people say that it was only certain areas who voted to remain. This ignores the 170,000+ people here who did.

Just because Leave won in many areas, the millions of Remain voters in those places should not be ignored, and we should not be tarred with the "hating immigration" brush.

Most people I know have more of a problem with Irish "travellers" than anyone who's moved here from another country. The pikey scumbags.

As an aside, my wife works for Sheffield College and does a lot of work in admissions. She comes home in tears sometimes because of the plight of asylum seekers/immigrants who are from seriously desperate situations and are just trying to better themselves and make a life here.

This is the reality. Not the utter bile that people are fed and lap up from the newspapers.

Sorry, I've gone way OT but you get the gist.
