As an aside, I receive periodic parcels of vinyl from the US. I have been keeping a tab on how long from when they arrive before they clear customs. There’s certainly friction at the border, takes about 3 days compared to nothing from within the EU.

Prior to Maastricht you put 3 days on any order, either way, purely for the customs clearance aspect for Europe. Volumes are 4 times higher just through Kent alone than in 1992.

When I lived in Gaborone, anything from the UK took at least 3 days to clear customs upon arrival in Botswana. Anything from South Africa wasn't checked and came straight through as they're both in The SADC FTA and the oldest customs union in the world SACU - Goods from The UK were treated no different to goods from Uganda or Uzbekistan, as they're not part of an FTA or customs union.
