Wigan was remarkable - 7 wins out of their last 9 including Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal.
and a Gus Poyet Sunderland was 4 wins out of the last 6 including Chelsea and Man Utd.
Can't see it for Stoke, Southampton, and Hudds.
I don't think this can be resolved by a poll because it isn't a matter of opinion. It is a matter of fact. And the fact is we shall never know. Unless the OP tells us what he/she means.

As a statement it is false. It is akin to the endless 'it was a red card' or 'it was a penalty' statements. Stupid statements, because it was whatever the referee decided. Robbie Savage was doing this in his thicky style all over radio 5 last night during the northern ghetto derby. We cannot be safe till we are mathematically safe. We are not mathematically safe so we are not safe.
As a question, the answer is no, we are not safe (see above).
As a thread, I wonder if it safe to venture an opinion on the perceived probability of our staying up. Assuming it is, my view as a non-gambler is that six would get me only one in a bet we will stay up. That said, I can't see us winning another point now.That that said, if the point of the thread was to determine the odds of our staying up, I suspect the best plan would be to explore some of the online betting sites.

I think you mean 'if' we stuff (etc). For 'when' to be correct we'd need to also suffer a 3 point deduction. Still, if CH loses his shit again, runs onto the pitch and punches the ref in the chops, while Murray does a massive dump between the Holmesdale End goal posts, and our supporters burn down the away stand (causing tens of pounds worth of damage) then this could happen.

It is starting to look that way. Forget Wet Brom, Stoke need to gain 9 points over us in 5 games - they've won 6 all season, so seems highly unlikely. Saints, not so clear-cut, but if they lose today, and they have looked v.poor lately, then it looks bad for them. Forget the others.

We are far from safe. Agree that Stoke seem unlikely to catch us. Even if we don't pick up another point, they would still need to win three of their remaining five. Southampton however still have seven games to play. Even if they lose today, they would only need two wins and a draw from their last six (bearing in mind how much our goal difference would suffer if we lost all our remaining fixtures). This is far from improbable, especially with a new manager in place. We still need to pick up some points from somewhere. The Leicester and Huddersfield games were massive opportunities to secure our status and we messed up. Those missed chances by Murray, Propper and Izquierdo could still come back to haunt us. Let's just hope we get something at Selhurst.

I agree. If Rafa doesn’t think the Toon are safe on 38 points, then we certainly aren’t. Many missed wins at home. Might get away with it, but if so, lucky for us that there are 3 worse teams.

I thin k that we are virtually safe but would like 3 more points which I think will come via a draw away at Palace & Burnley and Man U at home but obviously love to win 1 game but I cant see it happening. especially of Propper is out and CH continues his scared of his own shadow approach.

I fully appreciate what he has DONE IN THE PAST but am concerned about the present and the future. At the moment he seems to have been out thought by every manager in recent games and seems unable to change or vary a game when it is crying out for a tactical change. I also have some reservations about whether he is the man to take us to the next level or will we struggle year in year out while he is manager. I dont want us to be struggling every year but having said that I dont expect us to benear the top, I would like us to emulate Burnley this season. I hope that he proves any doubters wrong and shows that he can change tactics or make the appropriate substitutions needed at a time to affect the game not leave it until it is too late like he usually does. I would think the number of times we have changed and won a game could be counted on 1 hand but the number of times that we possibly could have won with a change would take more than both hands. We have been outplayed very few times this season so it just shows what winable games we have missed out on.
Can I make it clear I am not saying he should be sacked, as you never know whats around the corner, but just expressing my concern at the moment.

To anyone looking at odds, Newcastle were a lot longer than 20/1 to be Champions after victory against Wigan last year. We all know what happened there.
It is certainly not over. Having seen most of our away games this season it is very hard to see us picking up points at palace or burnley, let alone the horror last week. That means that relying on spurs or Man U at at the Amex. Obviously anything is possible but it is conceivable we won't get another point this season. The fact we are missing one this seasons most influential player for half these games adds to this.
