Nope, I stand by that comment as my general view of policing football.

I've acknowledged that there may be more to the story in my opening line however I do believe that the police and courts discriminate against football fans. This is reflected in the way two similar crimes are dealt with. One occuring in a football stadium and one occuring in any pub anywhere in the country.

I have no idea about the legality. One of them I know jumped the turnstile, not because he didn’t have a ticket, he did, but because they weren’t letting people in. They had both got tickets for Monday’s game.

If they are banned then surely they would not be able to buy a ticket unless they were obtained via other fans ?

Calm down was only a joke. Either way if there’s no banning order in place, regardless of who anyone supported I’d be encouraging anyone to contact the FSF to look into.

Out with some Palace this afternoon two of whom have just been contacted by their club to inform them that if they set foot in Brighton on Monday they will be arrested.

The point you are missing is that there is legislation that allows banning orders if connected to a football match.... there is no such legislation around a pub, You would have to use Criminal behaviour orders and a one off incident would not be enough for that. the point is the legislation was bought in to stop trouble at football matches that were wide spread at the time.

You're under arrest, dont know on what charge, but your footclub did call you to let you know

Such a call wouldnt come from the club, they would need a legally enforceable banning order or the guys to be on bail I would think

But there is comparable legislation. The difference is for a first time "offender" the judiciary and most people would suggest being banned from every pub in the country for 3 years is wholly disproportionate.

Not so with football fans. The police seem apply for FBO's for every offence they send to court regardless of how trivial or serious the offence is and the prior history of the "offender".

I'm fully behind throwing the book at those who deserve it. I'm not behind the criminalisation of football fans who's behaviour doesn't warrant it. See FSF Fair cop on twitter for plenty of situations that fall into the latter camp.

I'm somewhat surprised that if they are known turnstile jumpers that there is no action being taken in respect of that, either by the police and/or Palace themselves.

Palace's own statement on the turnstile jumpers: "This kind of antisocial and criminal behaviour is completely unacceptable and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. There are very clear images of the incident and we will work with the police to identify the supporters involved, who will face stadium bans as well as potential criminal proceedings."

That appears totally stupid if the case, if you do not have an FBO then you can attend. Maybe BHAFC will ring me Friday and tell me I am banned for West Brom away..........

If I had travelled down from London with a ticket and then had been marched around the town by police and finally up to the stadium entrance and then be held up for no reason whilst the game had already kicked off. I might jump over the turnstile myself, especially if ticketless fans were doing it!

I reckon they've not given you the whole picture. Generally speaking police can only arrest someone if they've committed, or to prevent, an arrestable offence (which they can't have done as the threat is for the future) or if they are in breach of of an order or bail condition.

If I had travelled down from London with a ticket and then had been marched around the town by police and finally up to the stadium entrance and then be held up for no reason whilst the game had already kicked off. I might jump over the turnstile myself, especially if ticketless fans were doing it!

The ones that jumped the turnstiles did it way before kick off and it was mostly the tickeless fans that did it leaving those with tickets in the situation you described.
