Rant over? I for one, am more than happy to be bored stupid by negative football, and they can even board up the goals as far as l'm concerned, just as long as it leads to one thing . . . Premier League survival. Did anyone really expect us to score a lot of goals this season? I certainly didn't.

This.

What did Douglas Adams write? Survival. Enquiry. Sophistication. This season is survival.

We need a minimum of 40 points to survive, which is the aim for this season. If we don't set out to win some games we will not achieve that target. Losing 2-0 instead of 5-0 is all well and good, for goal difference at least, but it's still nil points. Playing for a draw in games we could win is not progress enough.

Wonder when we’ll see a pass that goes in the net...

If we go back to The championship, I certainly won't be unhappy about it.

I'm not saying that I want us to, but this premier league lark isn't really that great from where we sit, footballing wise, is it?

Glad it's not just me. It would be nice to have a few years of gloss, a la Burnley, but unless a gazzillionaire buys the club we won't be troubling to top 6.

I don't care about troubling the top 6.

As my old Belgium beer drinking mate pointed out to me today, the top 6 are at least 2 divisions ahead of us.

I really don't want us to become a clone of Stoke City, et al.

Same old same old. It’s supposed to be entertainment featuring GOALS and yet we don’t even shoot let alone witness GOALS. Spare me the long term bolllcks, that doesn’t exist in football. It’s now or tomorrow. We need to score GOALS to stop ourselves dying from boredom let alone stay up. We’re just so incredibly DULL. And I for one am not going to sit back all content because we simply prevented another team from scoring. GOALS. I want to see some ****ing GOALS from my team. Yet not one player, let alone two or three, in a professional squad of ‘elite’ players can do this. It’s nothing short of embarrassing. And boring as hell to watch. No other team is as predictable as us. If you’re a gambler (I’m not) the you should be living in a Manor House by now it’s so easy. You need shooting if you’ve not cleaned up recently. Get all your money and stick it on Brighton & Nil Albion.
Pretty much this as entertainment is what supporters really want :)

I thought we were quicker on the ball. I thought the Newcastle players appeared sluggish, their goal keeper was getting a load of stick for not getting the ball upfield quicker therefore allowing us time to get back and defend. Spectators around me were leaving 15 mins early.

Watched a stream. We just don’t look confident in front of goal, so many sideways passes instead of having a go. The trouble is that if you do have a go and miss, the other players will say that you should’ve passed to them. Confidence levels need to be better to help with this issue.

Stats give us 3 on target, Toon 2. Total shots 10 vs 11 for Toon.

Bloom does not want some "more money". He hasn't received any money to start with for there to be any more of.

He wants us to be competitive at this level, and the more seasons we can stay in this division the stronger we will become financially and on the pitch.

I thought it was supposed to be the fans who look to the long-term and the greedy owners wanting/trying short-term gambles. Seems as if roles are reversed here with the amount of moaning gits on this forum.

Indeed.

And it is also true that the squad cannot be completely brought up to PL standard in 1 summer. It'll take a few seasons.

The strategy has to be survive, improve squad, survive more comfortably, improve squad, survive even more comfortably + compete in cups etc.

Completely agree, mid table entertainment is the realistic ideal. I'd rather be in the championship than Stoke!

Quite, Newcastle spent over 50m to get back up and lots more beside, look at them, throwing dosh at problems rarely fixes them ( same applies to motorsport)

Regardless, we do need to attempt to win some games or we're going down.

Agreed. They need to have a go more. GM and AK a bit guilty of the 'you should have passed to me !!' rant at colleagues, when they don't find the net themselves. I like it that Gross is generally prepared to have a go, and that pays dividends.

Why are your expectations so boringly low? One goal a game isn’t too much to ask for is it? We hardly score one goal every solstice let alone that. No ones saying we expected them to be flying in, 2 or 3 every half. I’m not even talking about winning, But month after month we see ZERO. NIL. ZIP. NIEN. THE SUM OF NOTHING. Why is that so acceptable? Not a problem to observe and comment about? From a squad of professionals being paid eye watering amounts? Wheres the glory gone, Christ no wonder the games run by accountants when so many dullards are prepared to pay good money and boast about how great life is being 4 points off the drop and having seen one goal from however many matches it is now.

Because some fans are realistic about what was going to happen this season. This season is about staying up and nothing else. If you don’t get that then you are an idiot. If you think the club don’t get this then you are bigger idiot.

Good result today. Beat Bournemouth in the next game it becomes a great result.
