Its a mess, I've heard all the arguments on the Irish situation and I can't see a solution without some fallout. If things don't move on next week a lot more investment will delayed or cancelled. Hopefully there is some fudge that can move things on

Meanwhile the cost of Brexit is rising by the day. For the first time, I'm almost feeling sorry for some Brexiteers, they really were sold a pup groomed by the likes of the Daily Mail

No one is saying all leave voters are thick. People are simply saying what the demographics show.

The demographic characteristic with the strongest correlation to voting pattern was education. The lowest qualified most likely to vote leave and highest qualified most likely to remain and a sliding scale in between.

The second strongest correlation was age. Older voters most likely to vote leave and remain was thebyoung.

Obviously some of these points are related because younger people are more likely to have degrees than older people etc.

To dismiss these facts as people accusing groups of being thick is, well, acting a bit thick.

You are just advertising how dumb believing any survey done on limited numbers is in any way an accurate portrayal of demographics.It might have taken place in Warwick University.

Remember that mass exodus from the City of London that was supposed to happen after the vote to Leave? Turns out the opposite is the case. City AM reports this morning that “City firms are set to embark on a hiring spree next year”. Data from City recruiter Hays reveals that more than two-thirds of financial services firms are planning to hire more staff in the next 12 months. Their MD Mark Staniland says:

“It’s promising that despite market uncertainty, financial organisations are continuing to hire as regulatory changes come into play and digital advancements are creating the need for organisations to constantly adapt and remain up-to-date.”

City AM says “high demand for staff has driven by double-digit salary growth for new hires in the capital”.

UK Manufacturing Activity Expands Most In More Than 4 Years

LONDON (Alliance News) - The UK manufacturing sector expanded at the fastest pace in more than four years in November, data from IHS Markit showed Friday.

The IHS Markit/Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Purchasing Managers' Index rose to 58.2 in November from revised 56.6 in October. This was the highest score since August 2013.

The score was forecast to rise moderately to 56.5 from October's originally estimated value of 56.3.

On its current course, manufacturing production is rising at a quarterly rate approaching 2%, providing a real boost to the pace of broader economic expansion, Rob Dobson, director at IHS Markit, said.

Production expanded at the fastest pace since September 2016. Companies linked this to stronger inflows of new orders, data showed.

At the same time, staffing levels climbed for the sixteenth successive month, with the rate of jobs growth the highest since June 2014.

On the price front, data revealed that output charges continued to rise at a substantial clip, the fastest for seven months and among the highest during the past six-and-a-half years.

City AM has been reporting increased hiring, higher salaries and increase office demand in London for months. seems no one told the City about the doom, or they are just getting on with the business of adjusting to whatever comes.
