You said we have no instincts to kill animals, and I gave you two examples of people who depend on killing animals for their lives. Another example is Aborigines eating grubs etc because of the desert climate.

I knew a vet who inspected abbattoirs, so trusted that animals are stunned before slaughter. I'm comfortable with that. I know there are rogue places, but that's up to the law to catch them.

An animal is an animal regardless of species. Killing is killing regardless. A wasp has a right to life too.

Salivating depends on smell. I know someone who lost their sense of smell and then couldn't enjoying eating anything because they couldn't produce saliva properly.

I'd love for the whole world to be vegan, it's not possible though at the moment so yes I think it's bad to consume animal products when it's detrimental to our health + the environment AND it obviously harms/kills animals. Animals will always die (lions will always kill gazelles), it doesn't mean we should. We should live committing the least amount of harm as possible

Never said they don't have a right of life? Vegans don't randomly go round killing wasps/bees/insects/bugs. That's why we don't eat honey and we don't consume products which use beetles for food colouring etc (forgot the name of it)

It's an experience for me seeing the locals here grappling with their usual rural practices all the while big supers are taking hold. Local markets are diminishing as 24hr marts are gaining popularity with there imported frozen goods.

I am 70 next year, and I have lost several friends, who were vegetarian, to cancer.

Look at Linda McCartney who was a trailblazer for vegetarianism, and only made it to 56.

I haven't eaten meat for about 30 years. For about 15 of those years I was a strict vegan.

I've never done it for health reasons. Although I believe a vegetarian, and especially a vegan diet is healthier than one with large amounts of meat and dairy, I believe in terms of health diet is just one small part of a wider picture. I think exercise, stress levels, pollution, genetics and just plain old pot luck have huge bearings on health, regardless of a persons diet.

In the grand scheme of things, I think the majority of my life being spent free from eating meat will have next to bugger all bearing on when I pop my clogs or if I get cancer or not.

my wife is a vegan now. It's certainly opened my eyes to a lot of things (and made me much better at cooking). The meat/dairy industry has got completely out of control in "the west" to a quite sickening level. Not only are they making the lives of animals miserable but they're destroying the planet as well
