My first thought was that he would. Then I remembered all the big characters who have been killed off and now have my doubts. I hope he does, though.

This is not a series that does much in the way of miraculous comebacks from almost certain death. They just kill them.

I think he's alive and Bronn is dead... There's no narrative point in saving him from dragon-fire, only for him to drown. What a stunning episode though. The dothraki charging over the hill, followed by a massive dragon sweeping in to torch everything was an incredible scene.

Jaime will 100% survive. He's too pivotal to the storyline to just drown that easy.

That is an excellent observation.
On Jaime, he's almost certainly going to pop up again.
Hopefully the dagger that Littlefinger gave to Bran, and Bran then gave to Arya, will come back to haunt him in the coming weeks.
This dagger was in the book sam was looking in, in the first few episodes, so she know has a weapon which will kill whitewalkers too!
Loving the series, however I am a little disappointed that the pacing of the show has completely changed, everyone is shooting all over the place, a journey which once took someone a whole series to complete is now doing it in half an episode. Its really losing its scale to get things wrapped up.
A show which has taught us to wait for a large pay off feels far too rushed currently.
Slow start to the episode last night, but a incredible finish, really liked Ayra finally being a badass again, Bronn and Jamie still a brilliant partnership and the dragon scenes were outstanding, intresting to show it taking damage so early on, no doubt a dragon or two will get the chop at some point.

It's Valyrian steel which, along with dragonglass/obsidian, is known to be able to kill white walkers.
The reason it's meant to be different than normal steel is that Valyrian steel was made in Valyria (oddly enough), where they knew how to incorporate magic into the steel to make it much stronger than a normal sword and to give it abilities that regular swords don't have.
Most great houses either had, or have, their own Valyrian steel sword, like Ned Stark's giant one that Tywin had melted down, which are passed down through generations - the Targaryens used to have at least two, named Blackfyre and Dark Sister, but they are both long-since lost.
