Endless reviews to see if it hit de Kock on the helmet... but it didn't. He's a goner.

Bairstow bowled by the spinner Maharaj... just missed the one that turned a little away from his bat... gone for 45

England 177-6, trailing by 158

This game is moving on at a fair pace... a result one way or the other seems inevitable (unless the weather intervenes).

Tea, Day two

England 184-6 (42 overs), trailing by 151

Ali 14* Dawson 2*

A bit of severe wagging is needed here... 4 wickets make that clearly South Africa's session.

Dawson given out caught by de Kock off Morris.... reviewing it... didn't even look close :nono:

Umpire has had a shocker there.

Terrible performance by England. I suppose we must give some credit to SA.

Too much of a one day mentality - nobody in the team, other than Cook who is willing to graft an innings.

Unfortunately that is how the batsmen are taught with the limited over games, which is the same as played at evening local level years ago at The Manor Hill Barn Lane etc. The days of innings builders like Boycott Cowdrey Barrington Graveney etc are long gone never to return.

And a bloody good job too. Boycott, Tavare were so boring to watch. Run rates of less than 2 per over were killing the game. It's about entertainment and things have moved on. There's more than one way to play test cricket, but just because we've had a bad innings doesn't mean the approach is wrong. Typical attitude of so many "See, I told you" when things go wrong, but deafening silence when it works. The Aussies were very successful when playing positive cricket.

Even Root is unable to bat and build an innings as his 78 was achieved in only 76 balls again 1 day stuff.

Yeah, what a f*cking loser he is. Only 190 at Lords - the guy should be dropped. Obviously he has no idea about building an innings (you really are so out of touch it's laughable). Bring back Boycott and we can wait for him to score a fifty in 3 sessions.

I am not knocking Root for getting the 78 just saying that he did it in 76 balls had he taken 120 or more others may have knuckled down and done the same and we may have seen today out. What do you want a successful test side that can add flair to resilience or a team that flashes at everything and loses most games playing limited over cricket. I know which I prefer and its not todays dismal performance

I thought we won the first test?

You might want victory, but with your approach we'd be more likely to draw.
