I'm surprised someone isn't arguing that our season is doomed already because all the signings weren't in place for yesterdays start of pre-season training.

Seemed a bit OTT to claim we were -1 days away from the start of pre-season training... however, ONLY 10 days to Dusseldorf (thank you BV),should focus the mind... I expect a glut of singings before Dusseldorf... or else it's gonna be carnage on here...

The worrying really is getting silly. Look back over the transfer windows since Burke left - everything has been based on careful incremental improvement. Do we - who let's be honest know nothing, and if we did we'd be working for the Albion and not posting on a message board when we should be working - really think the club are going to blow it? Of course they won't. Have faith

I like how we've kept the same thread for the no-signings bedwetters. All you have to do is go back through the thread to see that this happens every year. Page 6 of this thread to see the 4th of July signing obsessed usual suspects from 2015.

After reading this I might have to give NSC a miss for a while. The official window has been open FOUR days. Since when have we been a club to rush anything?

First time I've opened this thread in ages. Instantly regretted it.

To the bed wetters, we'll be fine. We're not going to do a Leicester & win the thing so what we do need to do is get in the players who will improve the squad gradually while fitting in to the club ethos & work ethic. That's what the recruitment team looks for & they're not going to complete our transfer business by 4 July, nor are they constantly going to tell you what's happening. Go and have a cider & watch some cricket or something.

Everton and Watford are the only clubs who have signed > 3 players.
Most have signed 1-2 like er, us.

If you imagine the smarter clubs in the Premier League completes all its business whilst Wimbledon is still on and we're "behind" then i'm afraid you are sadly mistaken.

Yeah one point on that. Every year we aren't in the PL.

You might be able to get away with having players come in late and not be fully versed on the team tactics and their new team mates in the Championship or lower but the PL doesn't allow for that when you have a team like Man City first up.

It's best to have had the new players training and playing as much as possible with their new squad so they can hit the ground running come first game.

Well Newcastle are doomed then as they've signed 2 players like us. Huddersfield likewise as they've just added players who were playing for them anyway.

Whatever floats your boat...

May I suggest that you go drink your Guinness, and leave the realists to JUSTIFIABLY worry that we are being too slow to acquire the players we so obviously need...

Or put another way we've got a number 8 / 10 and a club record keeper for around the same money as Huddersfield spent on a player they had last season anyway

Everyone is going to feel differently about this issue. I dont see a problem with expressing concern or surprise that we are not further into our recruitment for the season in the same way as it's okay to mention the time left until the window closes.
Personally I sway a little towards the former since I thought we'd be a couple of players further down the line at this point particularly as we need to maximise everything possible to survive including the maximum preparation time but I'm not losing sleep over it.

Maybe they will be doomed. They however had a better squad than us to start with so that puts them in a slightly better position than us as things are.

May I suggest you don't have the first clue about how football recruitment works.

There are only 3 Prem teams that have a demonstrable need to strengthen to survive... that is the true context CJ... comparing us to top or middling Prem clubs is fallacious... sorry...
