The reality is we could do much worse if he's free and his wages are reasonable.

I'm not quite sure how or where he'd fit into CHs plans mind.

He's a skalak type player. We need more pace in our team not less.

No no no no. Would be thoroughly depressed if we signed him. He couldn't get in a relegated and negative team last year so why do we need him. If it's his experience we need then sign someone else who has PL experience and is ummm..... good. No pace and we have players who have better dead balls than him. No thank you.

Not saying we should sign him. However IMO a seasoned prem player, would be a safer bet than say that Japanese player we are rumored to be after.

Apropos of nothing, I've always got him jumbled up in my head, with Adam Johnson.

Which is a bit unfair on the lad, to be honest...

:lolol:
First thing I thought when reading this thread was "So he is out of prison then. Would be a very controversial signing with what he went down for. No wonder some Albion fans are strongly opposed to this".

Did you truly watch Boro last sesason? I did as did these folk:

Come the end of the season, their fanbase were pretty much all in agreement, that local boy Downing was shite.

Should the Albion plan their PL survival partly on Downing, that would be very worrying.

I can think of very few players that would be worse.

It's not going to happen.

Hughton is far too intelligent a manager to sign a waster like Downing....an ageing waster at that. He was garbage for Boro last season.

Too old, too slow, never quite reached his potential, wages.....a whole host of reasons to avoid.

The main one would be the reputation of the Albion's much lauded player recruitment team taking such an almighty hammering.

He certainly was. He looked poor and slow and divided opinion in the championship the previous year.
I don't see any club stupid enough to take on his wages.

This would surely only be a deadline day signing if we had missed all other targets.

10 weeks out it is clearly nonsense.
