Whilst it may not be mathematically over, on the balance of probability it almost certainly is.

We are on 83 points, have 6 games to play and we are 12 points ahead of Hudders on 71. With our GD that’s 13 points. They have 8 to play, max 24 points. Even if we go through a (by our standards) rough patch of 2-2-2 we’d be on 91 points. Hudders would need to secure a run of 7-0-1 to overtake us and, on the balance of probability, that isn’t likely to happen. Reading are on 73 and if they won all 6 games they’d be on 91 with a worse GD than us, so that’s fine (as well as a highly unlikely outcome).

With Reading now in 3rd place and Hudders 4th on the back of two successive defeats they’ll surely now be focused on finishing 3rd to get 2nd leg home advantage in the playoffs. Wagner will be setting them up psychologically for that IMHO, rather than chasing us for 2nd. I think that Burton’s 96th minute goal on Saturday will be seen as a defining moment in the promotion race, which is what I felt at the time I was going nuts in the WSL concourse when the goal was announced.

Yes, I know, we still have a job to do to get across the finish line but CH and the lads will ensure we achieve at least 2-2-2 (and 1-3-2 will probably be good enough). Reading or Hudders are statistically unlikely to catch us now.

Time to buy your streamers, flags and banners ladies and gents in readiness for Albion’s party. With a bit of luck – and Reading and Hudders losing a couple here and there – we’ll be officially up after the Wigan game (which was my prediction months ago) or perhaps Norwich. Villa Park is going to be a carnival - whether we finish 2nd or 1st - and best of all it's just up the road from me and I can be there in less than an hour!

Enjoy every second of the party as we will all be part of Albion’s history having witnessed two incredible seasons that will live long in the memory of everyone who was privileged enough to witness them and be part of the journey. Even more incredible is that 20 years ago we almost slipped into oblivion. What this club has achieved in the last two decades is nothing short of a miracle, is what makes our club so special to everyone who follows it and is a feeling almost impossible to describe to those who've not shared the experience.

Believe. We are going up. We really, really are!

Everything you say is logical and roles reversed I would feel the same.

But...
This is brighton, we never make things easy for ourselves
And
I've built Huddersfield up in my mind of being this amazing team who will lay waste to all before them, on the strength of a winning streak and demolition job on our own side

Find me an example. Something even close to the complete catastrophe of a team in our position messing it up now. I'm intrigued. Has it ever happened?

We're on our way!

It hasn't but there's a first time for everything.

I'm starting to relax but not there yet. If Hudds / Newcastle drop points tonight and we win on Friday I'll relax a bit more.

Game at a time.

I hope I don't have to eat my words, but Brighton couldn't stuff it up from this position................there, it's probably cursed now.

If you honestly, seriously, disagree with this statement, then let's hear it right now.

We're going up, we're by-passing the play-offs, and this is going to be the most successful Brighton side that the world has ever seen.

12 points clear. 6 games to play. Imagine if these stats were the other way around. We'd have given up long ago.

Will we lose again? Probably. If we don't, it's not even going to be close. Over the course of the season, we're so much better than Huddersfield. We've done it this time, there can be no argument. Going up up up.

We're on our way!!!

Yes, absolutely, but I think you deserve exactly the same grief that those of us who posted with the exact same optimism and belief one week ago, one month ago, hell three months ago were given :p

Its been obvious that we were going up for a VERY long time :albion:

It can only be a proper curse if one of us were to write:-

'Nothing can go wrong now'.

i think we should do the streamers when we secured promotion so everyone in ESU and WSU if brought one streamer each it would look fantastic and use it at the end of the game if promoted at home and if promoted away the next home game at start as it won't matter. I would do This only once as PB would have to pay the cleaners more money

There were quite a few more than the usual two from WSU last night.

More again for Wigan and then full on River Plate 1978 for Bristol City...!
I'm not wanting to disagree with the gist of the thread, but Huddersfield have 8 games to play.

Yes if Huddersfield win every game and we continue our seasons form of two points a game we're there. Still not time to count chickens.
Win at qpr and Huddersfield drop points I'll start ordering plastic seagulls.

As I just posted in the PPG required thread, using last seasons total as a benchmark we need 1 PPG to get to 89

Reading need 2.67 and Huddersfield 2.25.

Over a 6 game period our lowest average PPG has been 1.33 this season which would be enough to put us on 91.

I'm probably one of the most pessimistic people you'll meet but even I'm beginning to believe.

Reading longest winning streak this season is 5 most of them games were against bottom of the table sides. Huddersfield have a 6 game run. So it's a big ask to expect both to win all their remaining games, add to that the pressure and the fact both have to play clubs still in with a chance of the play offs. I don't expect us to win all our games, or lose them all. 90 plus points will see us up.A win for Norwich tonight will bring them to within 6 points of the playoffs

What’s it called? Cumbernauld
Part of me wants it to get tight again (pardon the expression), with us just squeaking over the line in the final week. Too easy, and we'll start thinking it will all be a breeze in the prem, rather than the hurricane it is bound to be (shed roof off on a regular basis, lawnmower ruined, etc). But, no, we're up aren't we? Yes we are. Hasn't quite sunk in yet as I'm not blubbing like the solid gold 24 carat wet poof that I normally am on momentous occasions. :lolol:
Nooooo the sooner we are up the sooner we can start putting feelers out for summer signings which will be vital

I want to be excited. I want to join in with all the joy and merriment.

But something inside of me just refuses to, until it's mathematically certain. This is one hell of a weird league, so I don't want to get too excited until we're there.

I know exactly what you mean. I think we will do it, am confident we will, but until it's a mathematical certainty.......

In the Championship please.
Because it's a different sport or something? If they win their games in hand, it's 6 points (+GD). That can change in 3 games.

Newcastle beat us and then Huddersfield away (their two hardest games of the season, while we lost to Forest), and they looked like they were basically promoted. They then got 1 point from their next 2 games, while we won, and their gain was practically wiped out.

Of course the current top two are strong favourites, but it ain't over. And we've only got two home games left.
