Remind me of our run of games after losing to Reading in the League Cup. Or maybe after losing to Walsall in the cup last season.
You must have very little faith in Chris Hughton to think that we (is that us or the team) are going to casually break a habit of winning.

I have great faith in CH and the team. I still maintain that winning is a habit, as is losing, and that it is a risk to take on any match with the view that it's OK if we lose this one lads, we'll concentrate on the others. It's not the end of the world, nor is it a guarantee of failure - it is just a risk, that is all. Whether it is a risk worth taking, only time (and results) will tell.

I think he may well have thought - as did many NSCers - that he'd put out a team that could win, but making 9 changes was still a risk, and it didn't come off. Whichever way you look at it, we ot turned over and humiliated; that can never be good.
That's what makes it all then upsetting. I grew in an era when the FA cup meant everything. I'm an old dinosaur but I feel gutted that we ****ed up a 4th round tie. Maybe you needed to know how much that meant once........ Shut up Questions you old ****.
I would argue the gap in standards in some teams in that league is lower than the Championship, I could be wrong, but are some of the sides still semi pro?
I guess they will see if they were right or not at the end of the season.
Brighton are going to finish in the top 2 unless a run of injuries to key players hit, why increase the chances of that by playing more games?
As for embarassing? No one will care about this result next week.

Maybe this will do us all some good. Let's face it, we have been getting a little smug lately. Maybe we needed bringing down a peg or two.
It's a long time since we've been so lacklustre, unmotivated and outclassed by lower league opposition. I suggest we all just suck it up (players, management and fans) and accept it as a jolt to the system - one that will hopefully keep us focused on the league campaign and remind us that we really have to earn this promotion. Yes, our first XI can be pretty dazzling, but there's a softer underbelly to this squad and it was there for all to see yesterday.

No, I'm gutted too. What I meant was, it might not be our strongest 11 but it is a decent 11 and it is an 11 that you would think would hold its own in the championship and should be more than strong enough to beat a conference level team. It's not like the old days when the reserves were genuinely reserve players who weren't good enough for the first team. Seven of the eleven who started yesterday were first team/first team quality players.
Obviously yesterday's second half performance suggests otherwise...

A sad day when the 4th round of the fa cup is a distraction,grew up when the 3rd round was a cup run but i suppose the we are chasing the loot but the games that stick in the memory were the cup ties from the past,even the ones we lost but turned out our front side live on Liverpool,highbury,walton and hersham,leatherhead,man city,wba,ipswich,norwhich fantastic memories from both cups.I feel we have cheated Lincoln and our traveling fans but hey what else would i say.

It's not new though is it....league cup has been withering on the vine for a while now..only being taken seriously by a lot of clubs when they get to the semis...and the status of the FA Cup as we all know has been suffering for a while.
I'm cringing at the headlines today...but relieved we didn't pick up a replay.

Although in the grand scheme of things we are not too heartbroken about the result, what is worrying is that we scored one goal against a National League team when a couple of days previously Barrow had put three past them. Plus we had our top goal scorer on the pitch. It was a poor performance for a top of the Championship squad against a fifth tier club.

Still gutted though,my fa cup run a couple of years ago saw 17 games where both teams were desperate to win even chelsea when they played Bradford.

For what it's worth, I remember those days too. But the FA Cup has been in decline for decades. Can understand nostalgia for the big 5th round ties, but that's what it is- nostalgia.
