Realistic signings in January

Isn't that the idea though, cover? He is probably of similar match fitness to Solly and could get up to speed very quickly, in the position we need cover, we know he's quality, he's been here before and knows at least 7-8 of current squad. Probably wouldn't need to use him much on Baldock's form.

Title of this thread is realistic signings and I could do without a big time charlie coming in and disrupting what I think is our biggest asset, the team spirit.

Was he really that good though? He had one good game every 5 or 6, hence us being utter SHITE that year. Tex is hugely overrated by some people on here IMO

Agreed. First and foremost we need someone who is hungry. Look at Norwood in the games he came on in before he got his recent starts- he was running around like a bloody maniac, lifting our game, trying to make an impact (Hemed is similar). We're looking for that kind of thing. I think Tex might be thinking 'this is my chance', and if that is the case let's go for him.

I endured that season home & away and can instantly think of c10 games where I can recall standing there thinking 'this guy is outrageously better than the rest of the team'. He often overplayed it which was noticably something CH was cutting out of his game before he broke his leg.

So that instantly sheds doubts over your quoted ratio of good games he had, unless you are just counting those that he scored in

Not claiming he could get anywhere near our team right now, which is how it should be. In other words, we should be looking for cover, not some 10M Rhodes-like waste of space that could potentially cause disruption.

The thing is with Tex, he has that rare ability to drift past players with skill. Defenders hate players running at them who can beat them. Look at the carnage Knocky causes, the panic March caused against Brum and at times against Perch yesterday. Imagine if you had the option of bringing on someone to do the same straight down the middle as well. Terrifying for a tiring defence. It's a definite yes for me if he's available CH wants him

With Murray at 33 and Hemed at 29 (at the time of writing), why are so many people throwing around the names of so many old players?

I would personally love to get someone who will fire us to the Premier League, but also be a key member of the squad that keeps us there. Quite simply, a player like Robbie Keane, Jordon Rhodes or Leo Ulloa won't do that.

Sinclair and Hogan seem to be the best forward shouts at the moment, but I don't even know if we necessarily need a striker that desperately these days. All the idiots posting about 'barn door Baldock' seem to have been silenced a bit, and we shouldn't forget that 29 of our last 38 goals have been scored by Baldock, Murray and Knockaert - Goals aren't an issue right now.

Joao Teixeria would be an awesome signing for me. Provides a lot of different opportunities, is still young and full of talent and already knows the club!
Hi James, a well thought out comment. From your uncle.

Sam Winnall? Any chance Barnsley would let him go? Would he be happy coming of bench or being in rotation as Baldock is bang in form?

Best finisher i have ever played with. Even in a Wolves squad with the like of Steven Fletcher, Kevin Doyle & Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Lewis Grabban on loan until the end of the season? Has played less than 60 mins for Bournemouth this season and is proven at Championship level.

So I agree with your latter point, but Tex isn't anywhere near good enough for the team now - and wouldn't be good enough if we went up. He would be a pointless signing. I would rather we used someone from the U23's to be honest, such as Bjordal or Tilley

Last couple of home games I think Hemed doesn't look hungry or fighting for his place when he came on, like he's given up. His touches against QPR weren't good - could put it down to match fitness but you HAVE to take those chances and fight for your place. I didn't see that.

He wasn't chasing anything down full blooded, only half hearted. Knocky ran half the pitch to chase down the ball to their goalie and nearly got there before their goalie kicked it out - in injury time and we were 3-0 up. Hemed just stood or jogged around the center circle, like he knows he's about to go 3rd on the pecking order - or out the door.

From what I can see, he's apparently being hugely underrated by some people on here IMHO.

We'd have gone down that season without him. He was so far and above everyone else in our team that year, in terms of natural skill and his ability to affect games, that I find it criminal that he's so underrated by some.

Without Hughton we would have gone down. Didn't we go something like 9 games without scoring at one point too? Not the best advert for our most creative player! Saying he was our best player that season is hardly a ringing endorsement either... the competition wasn't really up to much

Indeed. Sam Baldock can't run & run forever. He is playing every game as we have no cover. I'd love to see him be given a rest here and there and see someone like Tex take the stage. He could do some serious damage tucked in behind Murray or Hemed. Better than Pritchard IMHO and a loan could be cheap.

Just cant fathom why people would want Tex back. We are way too good for him now.

I'd go along with this, but it's not so much that we're too good for him, it's more that his style of play just doesn't fit into the way we play now. As others have said, he may be able to ghost past players, but he really does slow the game down, whereas we speed it up, which is why Baldock works well in this team.

With the string of top notch performances Baldock has been producing game after game, I suggest we find COVER for him instead of a REPLACEMENT. So it's Omar Bogle (Grimsby) for me

Sensible. I can't see us spending much at all. It'll make little difference. We just need cover for Baldock.

I think he's the kind of player that struggles to shine in a shit team. With a team that attacks as a unit, I think he'd do well. He'd also have to track back and defend, just like everyone else. And he'd either do that or not make the team.

No idea of his current fitness etc though, so may not be an option at all.
