Dale Stephens Summer 2016 shenanigans (Merged Thread)

I cannot understand people using the fact that Stephens hasnt been a regular this season as a reason we could do with out him.. Just look at how poor we have been in most games this season and certainly not shown as promotion contenders. That is not just down to the non appearance of Stephens but other players not showing their best.

We were poor on Saturday, marginally less so at Reading. However we were excellent at Derby and should have won, didn't really need to get out of 3rd gear against Forest and were comfortable against a never-say-die Rotherham. Chris Hughton just needs to show faith in Oliver Norwood (over Sidwell) if he's not going to include Stephens in the side.

Bu if he requests a transfer doesn't he waive any bonuses he may be due from us?
Yes. He can't have his cake and eat it. Either he's ok with staying - great. Or he isn't happy to stay, in which case he needs to hand in a request.

From Dale's perspective, I hope we have a contract waiting to be signed that substantially awards a promotion should he stay. He is a great player and lad.

You would think that DS would now be offered an improved 2 year deal with a "if we don't go up you can go next summer" clause. I can only think that DS has decided he wants to stay under these circumstance for the next year. It makes no sense not to sell him for £7million if he really wants to go. Lets hope this is the case and he doesn't try to force a move.

This. Sidwell is a good player but he's not up to 90 minutes in a position we need absolute control of.

Yeah that's top quality writing from the Argus. Made me chuckle.

I like the sheer incredulity in capitalising "FIFTH", and then straight into "and don't bother coming back" - there is literally no chance we said that, but it's just lovely to read.

I suspect what has been said is something like "look, you're miles off our valuation - please don't waste our time with this sort of offer anymore"

If they had come back with 10-12m, it might have been different.

Kayal v Hayden
Sidwell v Shelvey

Stephens would have evened it up a bit. A fully fit Dale Stephens might even ensured parity.

It was the other Newcastle players that could not tackle properly w/o fouling.

To my mind Dale Stephens is essential mostly for his quota of goals, secondly for his physical presence and thirdly for his set peices. Or in a different order.

Arguably we need a left sided understudy for him. Not an dimunitive Pritchard type. Sidwell will probably be OK (except aginst the better half a dozen teams).

PS: I was disappointed with Glenn Murray vs Newcastle.

I am not sure that Norwood offers more than Sidwell other than being younger but time will tell. At the moment neither are good dnough to lace DS boots except in an emergency.

If we've turned down 5 bids, the 5th being quite a bit of a jump from the fourth, not only does this say we want to keep him but, more importantly and despite what quite a few on here seem to think (or even claim to know) is the situation, Stephens clearly does NOT want to go, at least not now. If he did he would be in CH's office saying please don't turn down any more bids.

OK he hasn't signed a contract yet, but that may well be because we've told him stick with us until January and if we aren't in contention then or if you want to go then we'll let you. A bit of a gamble on Tony's part because if he does go in January then we won't get 7 million for him as he'll be able to leve for free a few months later. But if ever a man knows how to assess a gamble it's TB.

I'm not saying he's definitely staying, like virtually everybody else on here I simply don't know, the club may be preparing a press release as I type. But all the evidence seems to suggest he is, at least for now.

I'll settle for that.

Burnley's bids only increase by having further add ons put onto the offer.
If we had been promoted would we have taken 2 players from Charlton, Bamford on loan...
They are planning for next season championship campaign.

How did David Stockdale come into this conversation?

re: "Don't bother coming back"

I'm confused. I've read so often now in this thread and others over the summer

"FACT - He's gone".

Its not and never was a FACT was it ?

We aren't going to sell anyone with no one lined up, even if they bid 10M - we'd have serious problems if we had one CM injured after 1 sep.

That would be great news if it is true.

We'll all know soon enough.

Yep, that link was posted on this thread at 11:00. The account only has 1660 followers, you'd think an official account would have more.
