It does feel like our need for a centre back and his relatively good performances at the Euros have driven his price up, as has the proximity of transfer deadline day. Debatable whether he's a £4m defender, for sure. Still, if CH thinks he's the one, then we'll go with that.

If Dunk is worth 8mil, 4mil isn't a bad price

Any chance that Norwich might gazump us on this one?

He's clearly a complete **** and I fear that he'd be an absolute shithouse signing.

1. Transfer inflation
2. He was in (at least one) Championship Team of the Season, which suggests he is better than anything we have currently.

I propose a new NSC strapline: "you can't please all the people all of the time". Some complain we aren't splashing the cash. Others complain we are overpaying.

Me, I'm happy to trust the Club's judgement, it's been pretty good in recent times.

Nice if it was confirmed so he could play tomorrow.

Aside from Ayala last year, I've not seen many better CBs at this level than Dunk (and I think he could easily step up). I'd have him worth substantially more than £8m in fact, albeit with my Brighton-tinted specs on.

I think I've only seen Duffy play 3 times live (aside from tele games) and I just haven't seen anything beyond the norm from him for Championship level. Saying that, I will totally get behind him if we sign him, I'm just a little surprised that the fee is so high. If he is worth £4m, I would expect us to be asking for £15m for Dunk though.

It'll be interesting to see whether he does end up as a first choice in the long-term though.

So if we sign Duffy for £4million, our first choice defence will be;

Bruno, Dunk, Goldson, Rosenior.

Possibly, but the need for equally good cover in all positions is paramount, so this is an excellent signing if confirmed. There is no way in the world we will have all of Dunk, Goldson and Uwe available for every game from here, and the latter two have to prove themselves fully recovered in any event. We could lose several points between now and then, this might help prevent that happening. Also, if a Dunk/Duffy partnership works very well, Goldson will have to play his way back in again (probably when Dunk gets his first Red) - Hughton is very big on the players 'in possession' keeping the shirt.

Is it a lot of cash ? Hell yes. Does it further confirm TB's ambitions ? Absolutely. We should be over the moon if this happens as it's a real statement of intent (assuming Dunk isn't leaving of course)

Very much this. Although I feel its a shame for Goldson (Who I presume will miss out on a starting spot) because he really looked the business even at a young age. Hope it doesn't harm his development too much.

Most value Dunky at 10m+ yet we are surprised at a fee of 4m to bring in solid competition/rotation for places?

I'd tend to agree with those suggesting some of our fans still have a 'small club mentality'.

Also, I suspect part of that fee is in a promotion add-on.

Possibly, yes - that would be my choice too. But if CH thinks different, then obviously I'll defer to his judgement. Certainly not going to start shouting 'he's rubbish!' if Duffy comes to the club, but I think he's going to have his work cut out to persuade many that he's better than Dunk and Goldson.

I know it seems steep but the current market means that an established International and Championship defender, who's 24 years old and will likely be here until he's 30 (barring any major injuries / silly bids for him) means you're going to pay through the nose.

I think, more than anything, Dunk has shown himself to be a top defender for this level in a Championship promotion chasing side.

Duffy hasn't yet done that. His value, I would argue, has been increased by his performances at the Euros, inflation within the market this summer, our need for a central defender and the closeness of deadline day. Basically, his price is inflated, which is a fair point to make.

I would hope that, were clubs to make offers for Dunk, we would similarly inflate the price to £15m+.

So surprised? No. Debatable whether he'll prove worthwhile in the long term? Yes. But, like many, I trust CH to make that call.

After the Andre Gray controversy I thought it might be prudent to check his tweet history. Seems like he also had a dubious tweeting episode at a similar age to Gray but fortunately not in the same vein. Unlike Gray, Duffy went down the " it wasn't me" route.

Sadly I do feel that this signing would mean Dunk may well be off.

However if we get 8 odd million or more for Dunk and that left over money was put towards a top drawer striker then happy days.

If Dunk is 8-10 million ... Surely 7 for Vydra is not that bad...

Throw in the Stephens money and we have a fair bit to throw about if needed.

All guesswork ofcourse and I would rather keep Dunk and Stephens if possible.

All this talk about transfer values for Duffy and Dunk goes to show what a good buy CG was..although it should be noted he's only played half a season in the Championship

Hasn't he deleted his Twitter account?
