Spot on. We are so precious when it comes to singing. People would actually rather sit in silence than join in, then come on here and moan about the lack of atmosphere at games.

Exactly. Songs and chants have been copied and altered since I first started going to football in 1966. Everyone used to sing "you'll never walk alone" with scarves held up like Liverpool and no one batted an eyelid. I believe Celtic still do it. Yeah sure, it would be great if we only sung brilliantly original songs - but that's never going to happen. And it's FAR better that we sing SOMETHING as opposed to just sitting their in silence.

This reached it's nadir a few seasons ago when we used to have that "We are the north stand the north stand the north stand ..." chant. The songwankers complained because Palace had used it. Good job they weren't around in the 1970s when we nicked Palace's "Eagles" chant!

Seem to recall being forced to play the tambourine in a rendition of this in a school music competition in the 70s. (We were utterly cr@p).

Up there with my scene stealing role as "3rd man at inn" during a nativity play.

Happy memories.

Still think we should be using something to the tune of three little birds. Easy to singalong to and it's slower, which tends to make it louder.

I think that song should be left to Wigan. I think we need something with few words that the whole stadium can join in with like 'Brown girl in the ring' commonly used in the 80's by all clubs and currently used by Liverpool. Just ' We've got Glenn Murray, la la la la la, we've got Glenn Murray, la la la la la la,' repeated would do the job. Yes it would. Well I think it would. Oh shut ya face.

I haven't read all the pages, but songs have always been, and will continue to be, copied. I see no problem with it and can't understand objections to this one being copied either.

I would like to hear an Oliver Norwood song to Olivers Army by Elvis Costello, as it is just crying out to happen. ( He has obviously got to do something useful first but I think that he will prove to be a very astute signing)

This whole 'original' argument is completely flawed. Whichever team – Wigan, Newcastle, Stevenage, Outer Mongolia – first used the song, THEY nicked it from the REAL original –*Gala, who released it in 1997. Even then, I thought it might have been sampled, but apparently not, according to Wiki: "The song was written and composed by Gala produced by Filippo Andrea Carmeni and Maurizio Molella."

Until someone – a fan, the club, drum-banging band, whoever, composes a piece of music and puts bespoke lyrics onto it for the purposes of one player, then NO football song is ever going to be original. Chances of that happening? I reckon slim to nil.

Not even GOSBTS is 'original' for most people, because they sing the 'going up to win the cup' (or similar) version! The same for all of the football anthems I can think of – none of them were created with football in mind.

So those who don't like it, just don't sing it. But don't have a go at people who DO sing it, either. At the end of the day, what is the problem? It's a song being sung at a football match...

Wigan song - get your 90's dance albums out and find another tune for Murray

I don't know about Murray but "Encore Une Fois" for Knockaert would certainly be in my Dream Album Top Ten 90s Dance Anthems.

This method didn't work out very well for Reading.

Yeah, but least that song was original, so it should please plenty of people on this thread...

Can I suggest the following to finish? It almost scans

And I would rather be anywhere else

These things are organic. After Friday, we're stuck with the "Glenn Murray's On Fire" number now, for better or worse.

Speaking of Friday's songs, just GRAND to see the ever-crappy "Ring Of Fire" binned before kick-off together with all its associated scarf-twirling show of muppetry

I think they should bin all music and shouty announcements for 5 mins before kick off and let an atmosphere build, We don't need shouty team sheets being read out either. I am assuming most fans can read the screens for team info
