Strike being called off will make no difference to Falmer service as the Southern boss has just confirmed to a certain Mendoza

Ie: no Falmer service until further notice or until they restore the full timetable that was abandoned a month ago to prevent the regular cancellations etc.
Little clues as to when this is likely to happen. Buckle in . This one will run and run.

it appears that this would be due to the emergency timetable, currentl there are fewer services Brighton-Lewes and limited services stopping at Falmer (last at 18:15 tonight for example). so we'd have to wait for the staff shortage issue to resolve itself and timetable return to normal.

Correct. And at the moment there's no sign of that.

So no strike and still no service. Can't do won't do SASTA strike again. A prime example of their lack of willingness to put on the service they have already been paid to provide.

What are these safety concerns? Even with their paltry short-formation midweek services it has been possible to get everyone to and from the Amex. The trains are here, the staff will be available, what is the problem. Any other business would be bending over backwards to accomodate their 'customers', yet as Southern have already trousered the cash they are seemingly not bothered.

Southern Rail STRIKE details - now called off, still problems on Friday expec...

I blame the militant bully boys of RMT,I'm not sure who they think they are, standing up for their rights and also the safety of the paying public! I'd sack the lot of em,let them work in sports direct, see how they like it then.

I'd go further and hand over the running of this appalling service to the RMT, they would sort this shit out, 10,000 drivers each earning 50k a week, 6 hour days and 4 day weeks, free transport for life for all the workers plus up to 32 family and friends, 10 weeks R and R oh and brink back the railway clubs !!!!!

60 guards per train all earning the same as the drivers otherwise their feelings will be hurt

So we are buggered for evening & Sat games then.

Yes. Until Southern decide to restore the full timetable.

The Standard said on Aug 2nd

"Now Charles Horton, CEO of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) parent company of Southern, has admitted he is unable to say when the full timetable will be reinstated.
In a letter – released today – to Caroline Pidgeon, London Assembly Liberal Democrat leader, says he is only able to “review the operation of the amended timetable” and does not set a date when it will end."

Whilst they are chronically shortstaffed and that won't change in the short term, there is absolutely no reason why Sasta can't offer a service to Falmer on Friday and Tuesday. There are enough spare trains (because of the emergency timetable) and there should be enough crew to at least run say 3 Lewes shuttles at the very least say at 18.15/18.45 and 19.15 using an 8 or 12 coach train. It is their emergency timetable so they can adapt and amend it as they see fit.

Tonight is the strike timetable, which is even more restrictive than the emergency timetable. If you look at next week, which I believe is still emergency timetable, National Rail currently shows it as three trains an hour till 19:50, then two train an hour till 23:30. That's running from Brighton to Falmer on the Wednesday.

Fantastic, it's going to be a long start to the season then. But hopefully club & fans will unite and still sort transport /parking /car share etc so we can still get 26,000 / 28,000 every week.

Doesn't that put the club in breach of its planning requirements ? I thought sustainable transport was a pre-condition. If this situation carries on then anyone who usually travels by train is going to have to turn up at the stadium and hope for the best with parking. Its a complete mess.

You're right, it's not that they can't it's simply that they won't. Driver and Guard, 8 car train just run a shuttle Brighton - Falmer - Lewes & back and the same after the game, if a train is properly loaded then you can get a lot of people away on an 8 car train

Staff shortage issues don't resolve themselves.

Southern need to think about their Customers, and do something more than just trying to break the union.

Exactly - perhaps some of the people on here who are so quick to attack the guards can vent their spleen on Sasta instead and actually get them to honour their commitments at least in part.
