Look, at the end of the day we will be competing. With or without Stephens, Dunk, etc., etc., we will. We will bring in good players for 2 mill or 8 mill. Everyone outside of our support says we are a force and we will be Prem one day. Just ride with it, it will happen. Stop shitting yourselves over Stephens. he is not our promised land. Our promised land is our manager and our recruitment department. Chill lads!

as awful a manager as he was he wasn't the singular cause of our problems, our squad was massively weakened from the time Poyet left. I'm not saying that Stephens leaving is anything like that but it's not a given that you can simply replace your best players with equally good ones if they leave.

I think you'll find we were rabbits in headlights. Thankfully we have calmed down since then.

Ha ha, you love a drama don't you?!! You're making lots of assumptions as if they are based on fact. The first of which, is losing Stephens means we won't get promoted. Yet you have absolutely no idea who will be coming into the club over the next season - or how we will play without him. We seemed to do okay on Saturday. You say he's our best midfielder, when in fact most would say Kayal is a more balanced player. And I would agree. You seemed to write in contradictions like doubting my perspective when you use such exaggerated language like ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED when relating to a player leaving the club. What happens if Kayal/Knockaert etc leave? Suicide? And then mention deaths in France. Odd.

You like to justify your point by becoming a bit sweary, probably because deep down you realise your original comment was frankly ridiculous. It's okay, we all make mistakes.

Oh christ

You're right. Now that I know you're around, from now on i'll use phrases like 'somewhat peeved' and 'a bit cross' instead, just in case you jump on here with your drama scale, and let that be the end of it.

Miffed is a good one.

Cheesed off.

Irked, Perturbed, Chagrined.

All usable.

People saying he's our best midfielder must be forgeting Knockhaert and Kayal....... March COULD be in contention too though was only that level for a few months so would say for sure DS falls 3rd not 4th. Bloody good none the less.

6.5 million WITH ONE YEAR LEFT is good enough unfortunately. With more years of course we wouldn't sell for that. We've bought a very decent central midfielder who is just as highly rated I'd say as Stephens was when he arrived. Sidwell can help while he settles and if he doesn't set the world alight then we can deal with things in the future.

People can claim we had playerS on 20k a week a couple years ago but i thought it was one and including bonuses which can't be compared to basic wages. Yes previously we were probably 6-10k and now probably often 8-12k and offering bonuses to creep that well up. Hell we might start offering 15k basics these days but we're nowhere near a lot of Champ clubs who dole out 20k here and there and stars on much much more let alone occasional 'bad' ex-Prem contracts.

Get some perspective. This sucks but is not the end of the world....... couple years ago he'd have left for 750k. Now lets having got 3 good central midfielders at the club, sign a body or bump somebody up and use the money to add to our pot for a CB and a ST.

Given money and year left I'm more upset to have missed out on Pritchard personally who is legit worth 20 million in a year to 18 months in the Prem. Forwards cost more and he's better than Stephens. My guess is in the Prem Dale Stephens is worth about 8 with a couple year contract so we are getting good value. That means he is a very very very very good player still, but get real 20 million.

Here we go...

"Brighton have already rejected three bids from Burnley for Stephens, while Crystal Palace are also keen on the midfielder, but sources have told HITC Sport that a deal is now close to being finally agreed.
Burnley have made an improved offer for Stephens and Brighton are now reluctantly ready to accept the bid to allow the player to make the move to Turf Moor."

I generally like your quotes but HITC is a very unreliable source.

Its one of those that seems accurate 40 or 50% of the time. Had Calleri definitely signed for 7 or 8 clubs back in January. Dont hold great faith in it

If he's going to go, let him go quickly. Then we have maximum time to use the money wisely and deal with any further last minute interventions from poaching clubs in the future.
