If he goes and it must be if. It will be on our terms and not theirs. He has plenty left on his contract and is absolutely crucial to us. I would not accept any less than £15m not because he is worth that, but because if we are going to sell it has to be such a stellar offer that we cannot refuse. At £10m say we would probably get that next summer anyway so what's in it for us?

To be worth it to us it has to be enough money that we can improve 2 or 3 other positions as well as replacing him with a good, if not as good, a player.

Lets hope he doesn't do a Bridcutt an throw his toys out of the pram and try to force a move.

Agreed, there are a lot of similarities. Villa are similarly lumbered with a hopeless bunch of expensive failures on big contracts who nobody will want to touch with a shitty stick. They'll be midtable at best, and could well spend the season looking over their shoulders at Barnsley and Rovrum.
Could actually be worse than the QPR situation as nobody still seems to know anything about their new "billionaire" owner.

At least Tony Fernandes is genuinely rich even though he clearly has no idea about football.

If I was in AK's shoes, I'd be off to Newcastle like a shot. Big fat contract, nice signing on fee and much better prospects of Premier League football next season.

How much? £25K a week + promotion bonuses. What is the Release Clause if there is one? £10 million?

Bridcutt only got £16K a week basic.

Apologies for my previous post, i'm just very emotional at the prospect of AK leaving. which i hope he wont.

I love bloom and i love being part of a fan owned club. wouldn't swap that for a few seasons in the PL.

The club is already actively in the market for the 2-3 players we need without that money. I just don't see any version of events that would see us coming out better off having sold AK to a promotion rival.

It's like Newcastle asking 'can we buy your status as a competitor for automatic promotion?'

BHA 'Sure, that'll be 15m'

Point is, we're not in the reset - rebuild stage at the moment. TB has said as much, and if you believe what he says we are gunning for automatics. AK is priceless in that regard.

Same as with Dunk and Stephens, it will take a huge offer (massively over his value) for us to sell, especially to a team from the same division. As others have said, if their opening offer is at least £6 million (as the Argus say), it shows what a good deal we got in January.

I agree with most of that. He is our most creative player and would be crucial. However, we found a bargain in Knockaert in January. If we get £15 million for him and spend double what we spent on a winger on replacing him, then we would still have £10 million left. I would be gutted if he left but no player is bigger than the team and, if he left, we'd have to move on.

Hughton on SSN now.

'We want to go again this season'

'Comes with the territory'

'We want them here'

'We want to challenge again'

'We will try our very very best to keep our best players'

Don't like the sounding of your last sentence

Barnes was in the last year of his contract so he was in a position for a move in January. The same applies to Kayal and Stephens. Where will Burnley and Brighton be in January? Time flies by quickly.

Contingency plans. I would be tempted to look for another youngish midfielder.

I wouldn't want to sell either. But as others have said there is a price we will sell, there always is. Bournemouth's for Matt Ritchie was £12m and he is a very good player too. If we had £15m added to our 'pot' then it would mean we could shop for a better quality of player. Not ideal but sometimes you have no choice, player/agent forces the move etc etc. Hopefully, he is content for now having just moved here.

This will be our lot at least until we get in the PL and even then clubs further up the food chain will cherry pick our players. That is the way it is.

A risk, but even then he has a long contract which means we can play hardball.

Exactly.

AK has looked quite happy to be here, HE chose to sign a three and a half year deal, and probably understands perfectly well that he is going nowhere unless BHAFC choose to cash in. That will only happen with a stupid money offer, or when his contract has at least got shorter by a year. Sitting in the reserves would do nothing for his chances of finding a big fat wage increase, with us or somewhere else.

He was trying to give a diplomatic answer to a question on the lines of 'so you would turn down bids under ANY circumstances?'

Obviously, EVERY player has their price, but we want to resist as far as we possibly can.

I understand all players have prices but my main worry is if our players are sold then it doesn't give us much time to try and bring in near like for like players does it. Knockart in my opinion is the difference between figniting for promotion or the play-offs.

If and when Knocky goes we'll never know what price we got for him, not the done thing at BHAFC... it'll be undisclosed with added rumours.

It is if we can't afford to make the player an offer that will entice them to stay. The fact that Kayal appears to have declined to sign a new contract would suggest that we can't.

Erm....are you suggesting we didn't do well enough? We bought him for peanuts FCS!

Think we could have done better, yes. Doesn't matter how we much pay for players - it's how much clubs are willing to pay for them.

We can't compete on wages with any club now in the premier league and any player worth their salt would want to play in the premier league. If I was Kayal I'd probably do the same.
