Bit annoyed the threads have been merged here. NSC is crap in june and July anyway and there were some very different subject areas being discussed.

Sadly-that was the prevailing one. Immigration was the biggest issue for the majority of voters, despite the facts that have only transpired after the result.
Well it was a major part of the exit campaign as was a very negative every disaster under the sun was mistakenly a major part of remain. Many of us didn't care less for the campaign, it was unwholesome and negative.

And as for blaming older people, how dare you or anyone suggest they should not be able to vote. Once people start suggesting removing certain elements from the electorate it's not such a big step to suggest perhaps no gypsies or no one who was not born in the UK or any disabled people or maybe gay people can vote. That is a remarkably prejudiced view, do you not believe in democracy?

When the result came in I was extremely embarassed and ashamed of our country, that we first believed the blatant lies of Farage and that many were motivated at all by racist and prejudiced views. I fear for my future yes-I don't want to live in a future of racial hatred and narrow-minded anti-foreigner mentality.

So you are choosing to believe one set of propaganda to form your view of the result. The propaganda that those who voted leave are racists, etc.... and that is total bull.

You are also believing that the country is ruined and has no future now we are leaving purely based on the propaganda of those who wanted us to remain.

If anyone is being narrow-minded, it's those who are spouting this rubbish.

Only if they agree with him

this in spades. stop being so bloody melodramatic.

nothing has happened yet and we are major world power with th 5th largest economy, 2nd in Europe. that isnt going to change for years, decades, unless people just wave a white flag and stop functioning. carry on as normal and in 5 years time your'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

6th largest. France overtook us overnight.

Perhaps we should have a referendum to see if this one thread wishes to remain in the combined thread, or leave.

structural funding to areas hit by industrial decline;
clean beaches and rivers;
cleaner air;
lead free petrol;
restrictions on landfill dumping;
a recycling culture;
cheaper mobile charges;
cheaper air travel;
improved consumer protection and food labelling;
a ban on growth hormones and other harmful food additives;
better product safety;
single market competition bringing quality improvements and better industrial performance;
break up of monopolies;
Europe-wide patent and copyright protection;
no paperwork or customs for exports throughout the single market;
price transparency and removal of commission on currency exchanges across the eurozone;
freedom to travel, live and work across Europe;
funded opportunities for young people to undertake study or work placements abroad;
access to European health services;
labour protection and enhanced social welfare;
smoke-free workplaces;
equal pay legislation;
holiday entitlement;
the right not to work more than a 48-hour week without overtime;
strongest wildlife protection in the world;
improved animal welfare in food production;
EU-funded research and industrial collaboration;
EU representation in international forums;
bloc EEA negotiation at the WTO;
EU diplomatic efforts to uphold the nuclear non-proliferation treaty;
European arrest warrant;
cross border policing to combat human trafficking, arms and drug smuggling; OK THATS A BAD ONE counter terrorism intelligence;
European civil and military co-operation in post-conflict zones in Europe and Africa;
support for democracy and human rights across Europe and beyond;
investment across Europe contributing to better living standards and educational, social and cultural capital.
All of this is nothing compared with its greatest achievements: the EU has for 60 years been the foundation of peace between European neighbours after centuries of bloodshed.
It furthermore assisted the extraordinary political, social and economic transformation of 13 former dictatorships, now EU members, since 1980.

Your go.

I'd be worried about the future if your a representation of it.

Wet blanket.

Be thankful that people with experience who rebuilt this country after a world war and have proper life experience have taken this decision.

I'm sure your 17 years ''life experience'' of hand shandy's when your mums out, popping zits in the mirror and shopping for skinny jeans doesn't really qualify you to decide what's right for this country and its future I'm afraid.

Yeah youth! How dare you worry about your future! Back in your box, the elders will look after this.

Way to be respectful there, Bladders.

Not true.

Of course it was! It would have been mine too (if I'd have been so stupid as to vote leave). But I'd well considered the possibility that the French would tear down the fencing and shovel the migrants onto anything leaving toward England. Won't be long until the Calais issue hits the headlines, amidst the French withdrawing border support. They'd love to move them on!

Please can you explain why we had to be in the EU to be able to have any of those things?

There have been changes in political and social issues / views across the globe and this often drives policy. Global warming / climate change, etc would lead towards a recycling culture and reducing landfill for example

If they have policies that the EU come up with, couldn't a country (not necessarily the UK) see that they are good policies and adopt them themselves, surely they are not limited to those who are EU members

Embarrassed and ashamed, really? I don't for one moment believe that 52% of people voted out because they are racist or prejudiced.

I am embarrased and ashamed that so many of my countrymen do not look beyond their own shoreline for what constitutes US.

I am embarrassed and ashamed that so many of my countrymen say that the better off in Society should contribute the most, until it turns out that Britain is one of the better off in European Society.

I am embarrassed and ashamed that many of the people who voted leave have no idea what they voted for, and little understanding of what they voted to leave behind.

I know not everyone that voted leave is anti Europe, just not keen on the version of Union we have. I am not keen on it either, it needs changing, it can and will be done. The attitude and will of all member states is there, it just needs a little effort.

I'm 17, and fear for my future. I've being ****ed over by are large number of careless older people who will not be around to see the consequences of what they have done. The nation has being duped and lied to by a racist and a power hungry buffoon. Farage has already gone back on one of the biggest lies of the campaign and far too many were racially motivated in their voting. Brilliant words from Kipling sums it up perfectly...

I could not dig; I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

When you have lived a little, you will realise that this is just one part of the rich tapestry of life.
The careless older people that you refer to can remember the start of the Common Market. They remember France continually blocking our applications to join. They remember the anti-British feeling. They remember our government railroading a decision to join, through parliament. No referendum. They are the generation who embraced multi-culturalism. They are the generation who saw our fantastic manufacturing base ripped away. They are the generation that saw strike after strike. They are the generation that saw rubbish and bodies piled up in the streets. They are the generation that had a clear difference between left and right. They are the generation that forced politicians to listen to them. They rebelled and changed things. They inherited the fighting spirit that has characterised this nation for centuries. The spirit that fought to preserve democracy.
For years now politics has become more and more sanitised. More bland. Less definition between parties. A fight for the centre ground. And with that has come apathy and lethargy amongst the voters. And with that has become complacency and arrogance amongst the politicians, amongst the political elite. They thought they were untouchable and they ended up disillusioning those they should have been representing. They persuaded successive generations that our place was at the European table but they wanted membership of the club on their terms only and created resentment. They took their finger off the pulse at home and have allowed our country to divide sharply into haves and have nots.
The older generation wanted some identity and voice back. There are more of them than other age groups and they have the biggest spending power and the biggest voice. They lhaven't wrecked this country. They have given us a wonderful chance to control our future. Don't bemoan the loss of contact with faceless bureaucrats in Brussels, work your socks off to get the right elected representatives in this country. People with drive and vision. Do it yourself. You have your whole life in front of you.

To be accused of being 'racist' and 'stupid' because I'd rather we weren't dictated to by a bunch of unelected, unaccountable, random people is odd and rather amusing.

For the record, I'm one of the 36% of 18-24's that bothered to go and vote and I'm delighted with the outcome.
