Do remain voters regret voting Conservative last year?

Just wondered as where we are now is down to that vote perhaps more than the one on June 23th. Remember only UKIP and the Conservatives had this option.

SNP leader Ms Sturgeon said that "of course" she would ask MSPs to refuse to give their "legislative consent".
In an interview with the BBC's Sunday Politics Scotland programme she was asked what the Scottish Parliament would do now.
Ms Sturgeon, whose party has 63 of the 129 Holyrood seats, said: "The issue you are talking about is would there have to be a legislative consent motion or motions for the legislation that extricates the UK from the European Union?
"Looking at it from a logical perspective, I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be that requirement - I suspect that the UK government will take a very different view on that and we'll have to see where that discussion ends up."
When Ms Sturgeon was asked by presenter Gordon Brewer whether she would consider asking the parliament not to back such a motion of legislative consent she replied "of course".
She added: "If the Scottish Parliament was judging this on the basis of what's right for Scotland then the option of saying look we're not to vote for something that's against Scotland's interest, of course that's got to be on the table."

Whoosh!!!!

It's BORDERS!!!!!

Malta asked for the UK's help in the 18th Century to get rid of the French Invaders. Anything done since then was purely British self interest. Malta was strategically important to Britain and that is why the Germans and Italians wanted it.

Thanks for the history lesson was unaware of the French 18th century bit-but nobody stops learning-

Agreed, my bad.
No worries, easy to get caught up with something you read that sounds dramatic.

Did you know, for example, the Nicola Sturgeon might veto our exit, so it won't happen after all!

No, he was talking about lodgers.

So do you really believe that the EU doesn't already trade with some of the largest, fastest growing economies in the world?
I agree with control of laws but am not convinced we will ever be able to control immigration. Sure I read that approx 50% of immigrants were from non EU countries. I suspect any trade deals with EU will have clauses about free movement.

The EU trade deals are made in the diluted interests of 28 separate nations negotiating priorities, some in conflict with our own. Our future deals will be purely in our national interest.

We have a better chance of controlling immigration outside the EU for obvious reasons, I am also certain 'free movement' will end. Gove/Boris signed up to a commitment to do this and IDS even stated this would be a red line in future negotiations this morning.

No one has tried to invoke article 50 yet, so not an issue?

 she's batshit ****ing mental. So if Scotland votes for independence, our MPs just laugh and say 'nope'. Yeah, she'd be fine with that.

So Scotland has to give legal consent to trigger Article 50.

Maybe someone should have mentioned this before ? ???

I think that's probably the case. In a way it's a shame we didn't have three options on the ballot paper - it could have at least differentiated between leavers who are mainly concerned about things like sovereignty / law-making, etc and those who were mainly wanting to stop immigration.

There should have been yet another option on the form in that case: "Stay in the EU and reform it". The perfect haven for the seriously deluded.

We are the 2nd biggest economy in the EU and the 5th biggest economy in the world whilst being the EU's biggest market for them to sell their stuff to us.

So what happens ?

So you think the EU is going to prioritise trading with us in favour of internally and with the rest of the world.

We're now the 6th biggest economy in the world and that was because we've thought about leaving. A drop in the ocean to what will happen if we trigger Article 50, then god knows when we actually leave.

There is no way we can have a general election on the basis of whether we want to be in the EU or out. That would be completely farcical as that is just what the referendum has decided. Imagine the Scots having their leave referendum and voting for independence and then having an election where parties fought on the basis of being part of the union?

Ridiculous.

No, the process has started and there is no way we will be involved again with the EU in its current form.

The point I was making that a General Election would be needed to create a legislative body with members that are directly accountable to the electorate on this major issue and that is best placed to deliver the process. This can best be done by having an election with parties (presumably Conservative and UKIP) running with a manifesto containing specific pledges relating to the Brexit process. Currently most MPS actually opposed Leave. In the case of all local and general elections make pledges and promises and , if elected, can be punished at the ballot box if they fail to deliver or are shown to have mis-sold something. This essential level of democratic accountability does not exist for referendums like this. If the NHS 350m promise turns out to have been a lie, well you bought it; no refunds/no returns. If such promises form part of an election pledge they have more weight.

My point about a party running on a remain ticket was that if this was the case and there was a clear and unambiguous vote in their favour that might be an indication of a change of view or circumstance. I am not quite sure where it would lead but at least it will have been as the result of some democratic process. Personally I think that to be in this situation we would need to have a Labour Party operating as a much more effective unit than they are right now.

Can you post a link to this. It's got to be thrown in her face every time she mentions Scottish Independence. Of course the English will not vote for something that's not in their interests.

What are you talking about? We're not going to tell them to choose between us. They currently export a lot to us, and they will want to continue to.

We're now the 6th biggest economy in the world and that was because we've thought about leaving.
That's incorrect, please keep up.
