It's nothing like starting a new job which is a matter for the individual. This effects the whole country. 60 million people.

which is why a mere 15 million from 40 million decided to remain was correct? why

We will have to pay tariffs and surrender free movement to see the real long term benefits of leave....

Which are?
We keep our £120M contribution and pay £500M duties?
Still have to manufacture to E.U. standards to sell there, pay for E.U. Patents as well as UK patents, have our pharmaceutical products approved separately for UK and E.U., doubling the cost to NHS of some products?
We can send all the fit working Poles home, but get all our OAP's back from the Costa's?

This is what is pissing me off, very little if any of what leavers wanted is going to happen, yet they are crowing, saying democracy has been served. Well this result is one of the most damaging to democracy, because it shows how bad it can be.

Free movement of Citizens may end, but if we want to trade, free movement of workers will be on the cards. No one who is here from Europe and working will be told to go home, those that are not working will not be entitled to benefits, free NHS etc. though.
What is more likely to curb migration is that more businesses will set up elsewhere in Europe, creating better work opportunities elsewhere, net migration may even turn to negative as our young pro European population head off to Germany, France and elsewhere where housing is affordable and jobs suddenly more plentiful. Good news eh!

You mean if we want a similar level of access to the single market free movement of workers might be the initial stated negotiating position of the EU.

'Trade' with the EU is not dependant on free movement of workers, never has been, never will be.

What is more likely to curb migration is the EU rapidly changing direction, reforming and not inflicting poverty and mass unemployment on member states so they need to look elsewhere for jobs ... which we know isn't going to happen.

I feel sad that we are on the same level as America now. I was laughing at Trump but it appears his tactics have worked over here now

That we are level with a country that is wealthier, has more freedoms and is more democratic?

Arrr you poor little snowflake.

Completely agree. All I've seen is concern from remain supporters. Leave on the other hand seem to arrogantly believe that because 52% voted for their view, there's nothing to worry about and everything will just fall into place. Sadly, I think they are in for a wake up call.

You're normally a decent poster Finchley and I can fully understand that your emotions are probably still running high. However, you need to take a step back if you seriously cannot see the ridiculous outpouring of hatred and viritol from the remain camp. I was under the impression it was those that were considered on to the right of labour that were the nasty ones. On evidence over the last day that is most certainly not even close to reality.

Democracy does not place greater value on any one persons vote, be they old, young, disabled, rich, man or woman. It makes no difference. One person, one vote. Majority rules. There is nothing to worry about because not you nor I can affect it. The result is in. Events will now take their course. Calm down and have a cuppa.

Quite an ill informed first post given that people who actually fought in and lived through the war were shown mostly to be very much in favour of Remain. They recognised that stability and prosperity for the whole of Europe was a good thing.

A letter from 270 retired Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air troops expressed major concerns over meddling Brussels interfering in the UK’s defence policies.

They told servicemen and women to get on the voting register before tonight’s midnight deadline and support the ‘Leave’ campaign.

Wel just over half the country voted for out ( quite a few have already said they regretted doing so because they didn't realise what it meant , utter ****iwit morons, ) but just under half say they wanted to stay. In my life-time the country has never been more divided.

But half the country didn't vote out, just over half of those who voted, voted out, a bit of a difference.
17 million voted to leave, out of a country of 65m, unfortunately, only 16m voted to stay, but that's democracy I suppose

We look elsewhere we look out wards around a very big world for raw material to make our own trade more freely with other areas the EU imports can also be tariffed to suite or we again go elsewhere...

Migrants working for £18600 per year jobs is just unacceptable a British person can do that level of work.....we set the standard higher like Australia we will be ok longer term we have to go through some pain to get real change.....

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Everyone's a little touchy today.

It is heartening the see that the leavers don't actually know how to leave or what they are going to do once we have left, since they haven't read the rules yet.

On freedom of movement, as it currently stands if we want access to the free market we will have to abide by their rules (not ours), otherwise they won't let us in (it's a bit like a rugby team trying to join a football game and wanting to pick up the ball all the time, but not understanding why they keep conceding freekicks).

The petition has just hit 2 million signatures.

Would be interesting if it goes over the number polled in the election....otherwise nothing to see here..
