You are right, I don't readily accept expert opinion because I have a tendency to question it.

There a multiple reasons why I question the assertion by "experts" here because the algorithm and what is factored in are not clear. There is a very basic supply and demand argument about a free labour market, and history demonstrates that workers pay is best protected when a labour market is controlled.

To assert that workers benefit from any uncontrolled markets is absurd, the Mike Ashleys' Sir Phillip Greens' Sir Fred Goodwins' and Goldman Sachs' of this world all neatly demonstrate that free markets will only benefit them and their kind.

The evidence on the ground proves this too, and if you and the experts are right then workers (the low paid in particular) would be rallying around the remain campaign and Labour MPs would continue on their message that a free labour market is great!

But only in recent times, following catastrophic election results and their traditional support base turning its back on Labour's long held capitalist message are Labour MPs now advocating controls on the open EU labour market.

Remember, experts would have produced evidence of WMD or that the UK had abolished boom and bust, we know different now.

As it outlines in the report immigrants coming in to the country actually affect both the supply and demand sides of the labour market. The number of jobs is not fixed and since immigrants consume local services and goods, this increases demand and raises the prospects of those who produce the goods and services. This is the likely main reason why the empirical evidence shows that immigration has not had a detrimental affect on either unemployment levels or wages.

The UK does not have a free labour market and in my personal case I do wonder if the impact to British born workers may have been more pronounced had we not had the National Minimum/ Living Wage in place.

In terms of your last point about why low paid workers are not rallying around the remain campaign (if this is the case). We have been through the worst recession in a generation followed by years of austerity which has served the ideological purposes of our current government and decimated public services. Unfortunately other groups have been able to seize upon the general discontent of the population to whip up a frenzy around the issue of immigration. One particular political party and several elements of the media blames every one of Britain's current flaws on immigration and foreigners and its surprising therefore that people have brought in to this.

Unfortunately there is a historical pattern repeated time and time again all over the world of foreigners and minority groups being used as scapegoats any time there is a sustained period of economic hardship. Look at the success of trump in the US for example.

some yob tried to head butt a young lad who was handing out leaflets in BURGESS Hill last week for staying in EU . My friends are split but we don't get aggressive we are a democracy and should respect each other's thoughts. I feel EU does need reforming but we can't do it on the outside. I hope we stay in but if we go that's democracy. Then we can back to next season as Bill Shankly said football is more than xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Nonsense.

Why is it the Remain side feel the need to constantly insult Leave. Why do they feel the need to belittle and dismiss
our point of view with such total disrespectful arrogance.Where did any of us say immigrants cause ALL
of our problems.Where did any of us say we don't want ANY immigrants.

[pasted from other thread]
It's not a football match. I don't look at all those LEAVING, and think, they are all on the same side. The spectrum of political views on each side will be massive. Remain has 170 Tories, 218 Labour, 54 SNP - they're not a side, they're just campaigning for the same thing for a brief moment.

To then keep saying 'you can't help lying on the Remain side', 'you're all missing the point on the Leave side' is just ridiculous. You might be Leave, someone else might be Leave, but I'm not assuming you are on the same side, you might have completely different political, personal independent reasons for thinking to vote Leave.

As someone who will vote remain, I am getting tired of being assumed of being part of a Remain Team led by this current government whom I didn't vote for. So please desist with this partisan team/side stuff!
