Palace supposedly make derisory bid for Dunk

Let's hope it gets sorted one way or another quickly and then spend sensibly..

Agreed. It depends upon whether the club view the annual Lewis Dunk summer speculation as a good thing or not really. My main reason for keeping him is that his partnership with Goldson is blossoming into an excellent one and if, big if, he can sort his temperament out and his moments of madness, this partnership could be the foundation upon which a very healthy future can be built upon. But then again it depends upon the player himself - does he want a successful career or even more money now. If the former, he should stay.

It depends on Dunk. Whatever he wants, probably the Premier with any club, Palace Villa Newcastle, his move will be paid for!

Being reported in The Sun as a done deal. "Elphick will sign" rather than a bid being made.

Yes. Apologies. It was quite a leap to believe but have now seen various reports over and above usual twitter accounts making a punt. Quite a surprise if it happens.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Apologies there is more than the usual twitter nonsense surrounding this one. Reports in the Mail and various other papers.
A big surprise obviously.

Elphick only has a year left on his contract, this is probably just his agent touting him around, putting pressure on Bournemouth to offer a new bigger contract.

My knowledge of top flight football is poor, so could anyone name me English centre backs who are better than him (Aside from those at the World Cup)? I'd be interested to know where he is in the pecking order.

I'm told that there have been no bids for Dunk yet, either from Palace or anyone else.

The Elphick thing is interesting though - would seem to be an ideal replacement should a PL team tempt Dunk away.

I've heard that Bournemouth are keen on Russ Martin, but him and Elphick have ' history' so Martin won't go there. Maybe move Elphick on to get Martin in.

Most clubs don't come out and make official bids now. They make discreet or sometimes not so discreet ''enquiries'' and during those ''enquiries'' money gets discussed. There have been lots of enquiries on Dunk in the last 2 or 3 years. Also I think his Agent might be a bit of a ''knob'' because I think he is the one who leaks stuff to the press.

We ourselves are in the process of ''enquiries'' about someone and silly money being demanded by the selling club. The clubs even tell you what they have already turned down in an attempt to drive the price up. That's why the buying club try to keep their enquiries ''discreet'' because they know that if it brings another interested club into the bidding war it can cost them so much more. Brighton are fairly good at keeping things ''under wraps''

It used to be that clubs did their negotiations in and around the club and staff at the ground spotted players arriving for negotiations things got leaked too soon but with the advent of things like ''conference calls'' that can be avoided now. Even some Medicals now get done away from the ground to avoid leaks.

Goldson?

Jagielka
Dann
Shawcross
Caulker
Cook
Tomkins
Keane
Mee
Ben Gibson
Curtis Davies

Better or same ability I would guess.

.

Do we do things like this, or do we do things in a decent way?

That is the decent way. Thats courtesy. You contact a club and ask about the availability of one of their players

Or were you asking if we try to drive up the price of a player. If so then the answer is I don't know but I am sure we would do and why not ? The more you get in a sale the more money it leaves you when purchasing. There is nothing immoral about it

I was thinking about the driving up the price. The first thing that came into my head was they would say something like Wolves offered x amount but I guess they wouldn't have to mention the team that put the offer in.

It seems that we are very discreet at how much we have to spend on players and if a club said Brighton offered x amount then that would be something we wouldn't like.

Correct.................However, I don't know how these conversations go since I am not privy to them but I do occasionally hear things like ''we made an enquiry about XXXXXxXX and were quoted £10million and also told we have already turned down £7million''

Clubs are demanding silly money now for their players

Even we are demanding silly money for our players (if reports are believed), but I guess its the only way we can compete.
