Only ever wear one for work, on left wrist (right handed), and only when not wearing a double cuff shirt with cuff links.

Wear one? Yes
Which wrist? Left
what type? Samsung Gear 2
do you wear it to bed/all the time or remove each eve? sometimes to monitor sleep through a built in app, but take it off most the time.

Well, well, who'd have though, watches could be as controversial as religion and politics ...

I'm in the £9.99 throw away after 10 years group. I have no interest in jewelry - to me it's a device to tell the time, nothing more, nothing less.
I'm a cricket coach and I've been hit on the watch a couple of times, especially while mitting - don't mind if its only a tenner to replace if / when it gets clobbered.

Current watch is a Pulsar Kinetic Sports 100M - I assume the 100M means it will still work if it comes within 100 metres of water?.
Left wrist
Only put it on when I go out of the house.

What hasn't been mentioned yet is type of strap: metal, leather, plastic. I much prefer a leather strap.

My other question is to those who claim to wear it all the time [bar shower / bath] - I find in the summer I sometimes get a sweat rash under the time-piece, is this because it's stainless steel and not silver or gold like you posh people have?

Final point, re which wrist. Someone already pointed out it was to do with the winder mechanism accessibility but this may be less important for many now. What is important is complexity / simplicity of the strap. A simple metal fold and click would be easy for either hand but a leather strap with buckle, get the pin in the hole, is much easier if its done by the dominant hand.

Interesting thread mind ....

Had a couple of Hong Kong fake Rolex over the years [all broken now] - again, never paid more than a tenner for one.

I was shocked when a work colleague showed me the cost of a genuine one - that model was £4k - he said there are parts of the world where some scrote would machete off your arm for it.

Scarily £4K would be the Rolex starting point. I've had my eye on a Rolex Submariner - white gold with blue face and bezel which is just shy of £25K I've worked out that if I put some cash away every year then I'll be able to buy one when I'm 158.

If you own something like a modern TAG or Omega automatic watch, how much do you need to spend, and how often should you have it serviced?

Are you looking to buy new or pre-owned?

I don't mind, but I was thinking new.

The Omega Seamaster range starts at £2800 new although you can get new (old stock) from sites like Swiss Watches Direct with around a 20% discount. Alternatively pre-owned (still virtually brand new most of the time) Seamaster's can be purchased from companies like Watchfinder for around £2000.

Tag's are cheaper with ranges like the Aquaracer being available from £800 upwards depending on your selection. Again Tag's can be purchased from all the companies mentioned above.

I wear an Omega Seamaster that I purchased 6 months ago from Watchfinder. It was only a few months old and in 'as new' condition. I love the watch and would wholeheartedly recommend Omega's. I've had a number of different watches (Tag, Panerai, Rolex) but have always come back to Omega.

With regards to servicing I would say every 3 years at an authorised dealer but there is no hard and fast rule for this.

I'm planning on getting an automatic. Is there much reliability difference between the likes of Omega, Breitling, Tudor and TAG, and is the cost of maintenance very different?
