Is Wilson still recovering from his Virus?

So Hemed and Wilson are now the only two forwards available at present.

Who'd have thought that failing to sign a loan striker could come back to bite us so soon after the window closed, not a scenario that has happened before this season either

I thought he was an absolute disgrace in the second half.
Someone nearby said they thought they saw him chucking up again, so either he isnt well/fit but he isnt right.
The second half he was going through the motions, strooled around and didnt commit to a single tackle/challenge.
I get the impession that he didnt want to get injured and is looking forward to returning to the Mancs, if they were watching him today, he might be on his
way out of Old Trafford.
Loads of talent but not commtted to the cause

Wilson is 20 years old. The youngest by far player in our squad and on the pitch today.
He's still learning. His form and games have been mixed but they reflect his experience.
The Championship is a tough league.

Its 4 months now since he was ill by the way. It was January 1st when he was sick on the pitch against Wolves and the club (who presumably were lying if this is to be believed) said at the time he'd recovered. They don't regularly play players who aren't 100%. Why would they ?
Why can't he just be a frustrating player and have poor and good spells in his game. Why must it be because he's "ill" ?

He does get a lot of unwarranted stick. Accusations of "lazy" for example are frankly nonsense. Only 2 games back he secured us 3 points with that rather good Reading goal and Hughton said, rightly, it was his best game for us so far. .

Deary me. Too wrong for words.

If Murphy's cut-back had been any good, Wilson would have scored and everyone would have been loving him as before.
Fickle.

that cross from murphy was appalling. i like him but he needs to look up and cross earlier. wilson had an open goal and was pointing where he wanted it.

Why do we keep playing him, surely our medical team are up to being able to assess a player's fitness especially when he always looks knackered after a short period. Mystery why we keep playing him as he really has not been that good for a while now.

We have no choice with Hemed being the only other fit striker than to include him in the match day squad.

Incredible to think that after all the fanfare back in the summer over Manu and Harper neither are anywhere near the starting XI, even with a striker crisis

Ripping into young lads isn't my thing, but the boys heart is not with bha, it appears he thinks he is to good for us.I don't want him wearing the stripes again,he doesn't deserve it.
If he had an ounce of lingards attitude i am sure he would come good. Should I feel bad about saying that about one of our players? Probably, do I feel bad? No.

Clearly not fit.

A shadow of the player who joined us.

Baldock would not start in front of a fit Wilson.

Still think Wilson has glandular fever. 12 months from start to finish. We won't get more than 20 minutes a game out of him.

Baldock is turning in to a Hoskins. Signed after one prolific lower league season, then something of a sick note.

With Hemed as the target striker, big man upfront, it is the second striker or false number (or is at 10) role.

Wilson looks to have the atttributes better than Baldock:

Attributes and duties of this role.

1) run of the shoulder of the defender using pace
2) come deep or go wide into space to lose the defender or stretch the defence
3) run to the near post for chances or decoy
4) collect the ball on the l half turn and shoot or pass (more suited to the target striker)
5) get off an average of 2.5 shots or more per 90 minutes

I do not know who of our current players can play this role the best: Baldock, Skalak, Lualua, Wilson, Manu, Knockaert ?

Baldock does not have the acceleration to run off the shoulder of the defender at this level
Skalak: unknown
Lualua: does not run into space
Wilson: not strong on the ball if the defender is all over him and does not run into space in the build up (although he does when other players have the ball sometimes)
Manu: does not know the offside law and fouls frequently (giving the ball away in both cases). Does find space though.
Knockaert: why not?

I think the key in the 4-4-1-1 (rather than 4-2-4 called 4-4-2) is the get this role sorted.

Alternatively, we could play Hemed up front his own and let the players take turns in supporting him. That might be too complex for them though.

Playing two inverted wingers is not always the best. One natural winger and one inverted is an option.

I noticed Rosenoir was reluctant to get forward when we were winning. This is right as any side (even the poorer sides) can hoof it up the wing into the gap left by an advancing full back who is not quick enough to get back.

Allbion shots 22 Baldock 1 Wilson 0.

I though Lingard was good, especially when he scored against Derby.

He's still not quite well. It is now more tha 4 months for me, and I still have it. It apparently affects the judgment too, especially late at night after one has had one glass too many.

Since arriving at end of November he's been in every first team squad bar three when he was injured (minor groin injury... not ill or sick) in February.
In those 19 appearances he's lasted more than 20 minutes, 15 times out of the 19. He's started 8 games and nearly racked up 1000 mins with us.
His form might be up and down and he flits in and out of the game, but I just don't buy that, when he has poor spells that he must therefore be a sick note, ill, or unfit.
For someone who's unfit he plays a lot of first team football.
For someone who's supposedly got glandular fever of all things then he plays a helluva lot of high standard first team football.

Love you Jem but here your studious research falls short.

We've all seen it with our own eyes, no more so than today.

He is not fit. He simply is not. And that is a massive worry.
