FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Burnley will not fall away. They have some good players coming back to bolster squad, as well as add in January.

The one thing that worries me is that we are drawing too many games. As a result Derby Hull and Boro have gradually crept up on us because they are winning games, losing the odd one but not drawing many. If this pattern continues they will overtake us and we will be fourth in the group and vulnerable to the inevitable two or three teams who go on a good run from any of Ipswich, Birmingham, Cardiff, Brentford, Sheffield ****ing Wednesday, QPR or Reading - all of whom are capable of putting a sequence of wins together. It all depends on how quickly we get key injured players back, the results when other teams at the top play each other, whether we retain Wilson and who we get in in January. So many variables and God its all a bit tight!!!

I guess a lot of it is how you look at things. Are these draws we are going through, as Mr Holloway said, our blip, if so then we are still picking up points. Assuming that is the case and that we come out of this slight doldrums and start winning more games then at present then we should be able to open up a gap again!

All teams will have lulls, hopefully this is ours - as a matter of note, Middlesborough's next five games are all against top half teams, 3 away from home!

People need to relax. We'll make the play offs. All we need is eight or nine wins and a few draws from the next TWENTY FIVE games. We're nailed on for a top six finish, the only question is if we'll finish top two. We'll have a good idea of that by the end of January.

To repeat: the worst case scenario this season is the play offs.

That's an amazing position to be in pre-christmas. I wish everyone could just relax and enjoy that.

We need to ensure that the gap between 2nd and 3rd remains wide enough to give comfort to the two teams at the top. It's obviously important that we are one of those teams and it would make sense for Middlesbrough to be the other.

Why? Because we play Middlesbrough on the last day of the season and we might comfortably arrange a cozy draw that would stitch up both Derby and Hull.

Best we start working on this relationship on Saturday, and go out for a very dull 0-0.

Or, in my enthusiasm for promotion, am I missing the point about football?

I think its important to beat boro on Saturday. We can leave the cosy 0-0 to the end of the season when we've done enough. Much, much better to get the points in the bag and let boro catch us up later in the season. The problem with "win the home games and draw the away games and you go up" is that we won't win all the home games. We may even lose a couple, so we must win a few away games.

Five-horse race, without Derby?

Burnley have had a stunning two months.

This thread just shows how quickly things can change. I wouldn't rule out anyone down to Forest in the promotion rave. Happy to rule out QPR now - I think we all expected them to go on a run after we played them. Shame we played them one of the few times Austin played a full game though!

You serious? If Forest win all 15 remaining games they will only have 87, which is not normally enough. Derby in free fall, there are five riders left in this race. End of.

In that case, it is true in every season that all the top half and arguably a few more are still in the hunt with 15 to go.
Actually, maybe he did mean automatic, since the OP was talking about a 4 horse race - obviously that meant for the autos.

But have Hull City had the Wobble ? We have (hopefully) Derby County are having theirs now.

4 of the next 5 for Hull are against teams challenging for play offs or better. If they are still top of the league at the end of that then I can't see them being caught. Burnley have come through a tough spell intact and have a run of very winnable games right through to when they visit us at beginning of April

Right now, they look the most likely to occupy 1 and 2 imo ....... a couple of weeks and that could change though

I noticed last night that we were 10 points clear of Burnley all of a sudden. I kept my powder dry on that, thankfully, because with QPR's comeback that reduced to 8 points but, even so, that's a decent gap we have put in place there. Looking now, I see they've not won in 6 games now, stretching back to before our draw with them, and they've only scored three goals in those six games too.

How things change....

87 isn't enough to get 6th - you serious?

Nah I meant play offs. As you rightly pointed out, a promotion race includes anyone going for the top 6.

Top 2 you can't rule out any of the top 6 IMO. There's often someone who sneaks into the play offs & has a good chance of winning them - I wouldn't rule out anyone above Forest!

Derby's price for Top 6 I find amazing.
