Surely the prospect of a Radiotherapy Unit is worth it alone, idiots.

Maybe the design isn't BORING enough, like the King Alfred.

As an aside, anyone know whats going on at that site north of the A27 just east of West Hove Golf Club. Lots of digger activity. I always thought it was a SWINE getting planning permission for sites north of the A27.

A new driving range.

So they can build a huge pole on the seafront that can be seen for miles which will look even more shite 10 years than it does now.

But will not lets us build a hotel and a much needed unit for the NHS.

complete and utter cock wombles. I cant imagine its a clever idea to piss off the club with the amount of money that is now put into the local area on match days.

The Argus have only just picked up the story from NSC now.

However, they include this bit too: "The council has received independent advice from Crosthwaites Leisure Property Specialists who believe the development cost of a mid-range hotel makes it unviable and therefore requires the club’s subsidiary company The Community Stadium to build it at a loss."

In fairness I have wondered how well the hotel alone would actually do in that location, am I correct in thinking at some point a casino was proposed what happened to that idea ?

bit easier for a golf club than a struggling league 1 football club I reckon

Given that the site is next to two university campuses that must have many visitors coming and going and needing accommodation - and it is next to a train station with a good service right into the heart of the city I would have thought it has a very viable future indeed if it is run properly?

Particularly attractive for visitors who drive down for a break and don't want to worry about their car for the duration.

That is not a planning consideration. The viability or otherwise of the project is purely a commercial consideration for the developer. The reference to any subsided required is also not a planning consideration.

Curious that. The article stops short of saying this is the reason for the recommendation for refusal, but that seems to be the implication. It's not something I was aware that planning officers took into account.

Picked it up from NSC? Planning applications are meat and drink to local newspapers, they'd have been all over this.

I'm bemused by this idea that hotels are non-viable: aren't we often being told there's a shortage of hotel rooms in Brighton?

Financial considerations generally aren't, I don't know what the significance of that comment is at all.

Why on earth, are the council spending money on consultants to check the financial viability of a private firms development.

If they are concerned that hotel will be built at a loss, how the holy moly did they approve the Amex.....

The council tax is clearly too high if they can fritter it away on this sort of thing.

If it's not viable why would the club want to run it at a loss? Shirley it would be good to have a hotel next to the Amex for purely corparate gigs! And I'm sure match days would see a good turnover, not to mention visiting families for students!?
