I suspect Thunder Bolt was differentiating between dark rum and white rum ( especially as I think she's served in the Navy unless my memory is playing tricks on me ).

Correct. I sometimes like coca cola with my Bacardi.

Now why has that bottle got British Navy and not Royal Navy on the label? It's pretty damn obvious that it's British from the White Ensign flying above it.

Its pretty obviously Royal Navy from the ensign :)

Probably some marketing thing to broaden appeal I guess. Not everybody in the world will recognise the flag maybe.
Whatever, I love it. Getting the overproof version this evening to try out.

Serious question. Do other countries - particularly with their own Monarchy - call our navy "The Royal Navy"? If it's just a British colloquialism then it will indeed be for marketing purposes!

Think our navy is the only 'Royal Navy', think other countries incorporate the countries name

Caprivodka thanks - lime, vodka, sugar and ice...........takes me back to bars on Copacabana and Ipanema
ever time.

The only snag is that the limes never taste like the ones hanging off the trees in Rio. Oh well!

Can highly recommend the honey rum ('Ron Miel') they do in the Canaries. Cheap as chips and damn tasty

AHHHH,the Arehucas local distillery on Gran Canaria produces some lovely rums, and a visit is memorable if you don't sample too many!
My personal favourite tipples are from HT's neck of the woods:
1) Asbach Uralt
2) Furst Bismarck (from the fridge)
:drink:

Susan, there's nothing wrong with a GOOD Pina Colada but it really mustn't be out of a tin !

Nice to see a lot of love for G&Ts on here, but which brand to people prefer? I personally love Hendricks (as well as the cucumber), but Mrs Bobkin bought me Brighton and Edinburgh gins for Christmas – not tried them yet, and also got me a subscription to a gin club. One bottle every quarter – I think – the first of which was an Australian one which arrived the other week. Don't go near Gordon's – 'orrible stuff.

I've also found an appreciation for Jägerbombs, having had my first one the other month. I wouldn't go on a massive session on them, but just as a one-off, I quite liked them. Don't mind a sambuca (of the non-flaming variety) once in a while, either.

Mrs Jakarta is a big fan of Bombay Sapphire Gin, we visited the Distillery and bought some Star of Bombay and Sapphire East which are variants of their normal output, haven't opened either as yet, no doubt we will get some research work done shortly... :whisky:

She also is quite fond of Cosmopolitan (chilled Stolichnaya vodka/triple sec/cranberry and lime juice with a twist of orange peel - very Noel Coward)
