Cut foreign aid and put the savings into our flood defences...simples.

Much as i despise the Tories and their knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing, there's nothing any government anytime anywhere could have done to prevent this level of flooding. You could piss all the foreign aid budget up the wall on flood defences and the flood would still win.

Of course, but I would worry about boring to death and winding up my customers just for the sake of pretending that you know everything about politics and how great his political party is and how crap all the others are. Politics is a very emotional and dangerous subject to discuss, and religion.

What have I done, I am now going to get loads of figures and stats about how many have joined this board compared to how many no longer post and how many political threads I have replied to etc etc.
I'm off, happy new year to you all.

Blimey. Where to start.

You won't get any figures from me as I don't track any of that stuff. Sorry.

As for "my political party" - I don't have one. I've explained it many times before so I'm not going to go through it again.

Happy New Year.

I think you may be right, but lessons can be learned and any changes that need financial input could come out of the billions we send abroad, that way the NHS and other major services need not be cut.

The UK's foreign aid budget will prevent 10s of millions of deaths from preventable diseases; I find it hard to justify withdrawing that for anything.

Not if the billions that go to countries that do not need it are cut. The billions that go to worthwhile causes like you mentioned would remain.

Just out of interest HT why didn't you feel the need to start another political thread about the Labour sleaze ball that is Simon Danczuk?

Because he isn't Labour that is for sure , anyone who takes money off the Sun and Mail to write columns slagging off the Labour Party is certainly not a Labour person. Now he has found out the hard way what happens if you associate with scum rags

He was elected as a Labour MP though Ernest, and is only suspended. As the GreatCorbyn said there will now be an "independent" review. The Whips can be nasty can't they

If I was on holiday with my family, I wouldn't come home either !
He will have a deputy to rely on.
The blokes entitled to his holiday.

Of course, but not great he chooses to take one outside of the country this time of year. I'm surprised it isn't written into his contract not to.

Genuinely.

If you wear a wooly jumper it doesn't make you a sheep , same if you wear a red rosette it doesn't make you Labour

Forgot. Its a bit like if in retrospect you don't like New Labour then they weren't really a Labour Government (that wrecked the country again), they where really just wearing a wooly jumper :lolol:

That's fine. I have no issue with this per se. In fact I'd encourage an environmental minister to champion remote working.

The issue for me is saying how he vowed to be the "public face" if there was a repeat of the floods of 2012-13 or 2013-14, adding that he would 'show great interest, care, visit, turn up in wellingtons and so on very early on... [to] take some of the heat out of it". He didn't do any of this. In fact I'm not aware of any visibility, messages or activity over the holiday period. At least Cameron stepped into the breach and showed some interest and support.

You mean no-one from the departments involved, or the government, bothered to contact you or keep you up to speed? How very remiss of them. I don't know what the world is coming to.
