Always been my opinion on this as well. If they don't want to use the Whitehawk name anymore, East Brighton is a better reflection of the club and it's location than "Brighton City"

I bet not many people know where Forest Green Rovers are based, but it doesn't seem to be holding them back. They could well be playing in League 2 next season.

Forest Green did change their name for a couple of years - to Stroud, a nearby town. Change didn't do them any favours, though - if anything the club went backwards during that time - so they soon changed it back.
And yes, it's amazing to think that England's finest village team could soon be in League 2 - the smallest club ever in the league??

As Brighton pubs change their names so readily, not a surprise it has come to football. Whitehawk is a good name. Brighton City is naff. Langney Sports was also preferable to the dreary Eastbourne Borough.

It's simple. There is now a rule stating that no team can enter a FA sanctioned league with the same town name as an existing club. So that's the end of that. Whitehawk is a little club with big ambitions, but Albion have spent millions on branding and Uncle Tony won't let the Hawks benefit by hanging on our shirt tails. So you might say, 'End of!'.

I think I read somewhere it was brought in after the Albion appealed and won this.

Don't see the issue myself.

On another point wouldn't it be good to have two fairly successful clubs in the city?
