I'm predisposed to enjoying the Robert Millar book as he's the man who started it all off, for me.
But even with that, it's still a very good book.

I'm agreed about the Robert Millar - probably still my biggest cycling hero as he's also where it all started for me.

I had to pop into Southdowns bikes Goring today for some in ride fettling.
On the wall happened to be this:-

Without a doubt the lightest production bike on the planet. Trek set out to produce a bike that was the lightest in every model and every size. What they produced was the featherweight Trek Emonda SLR 10 H1 Road Bike 2016.

Tipping the scales at a mere 4.65 kilograms

That'll be 4 and a half bags of sugar, all in.
It's really bizarre, the fella lifted it down, one handed, holding the downtube, and handed it over.

Initially, obviously i couldn't get over how light it was, it just felt like 'nothing'.
But then it became really confusing because once I was over that it looks a really bulky bike.
All the tubing is massively oversized and it seems so study, then I picked it up and it's back to being 'nothing' again.

Sake. Just been out to prep the bike for tomorrow, which included putting the 'guards back on. Back wheel was out of line but impossible to sit without bouncing off the pads. Iff for a 'trueing' at a cost of up to £15 but cannot get it done until midweek so no ride tomorrow. Pissed right off. Most def gonna try chromeplastics now..

Just been out to remove and clean the wheel for its truing. Noticed a loose spoke and then spotted a quite big hole in the wheel where it is supposed to sit.

Looking at LBSs, the 'value' wheels are about £80 and the 'finest/extra special' ones start at about £200. I've only got an entry level bike; what do I do?

I'd imagine there's a bargain upgrade out there somewhere.
Failing that just pick hp a bomb proof replacement, for the winter, then see what's about in the Spring.

No particular etiquette that you won't know about, I would imagine.

You point out potholes/hazards to those behind, you shout out "big hole" if there is a...big hole, you shout out "clear" when turning onto a road (when it's clear ), you fill your pockets with gels and energy bars at the feed stops (they need to last the season), you take a turn at the front when cycling in a group (always try to get into a group), you shout "car up" or "car back"...that's about it.

It's all good fun.
