Did this one last year and it's great... This was my first ever half last year & this will be my 6th overall so 6 in 12 months - my New Years goal was 5 in 2015 which I also complete Saturday hopefully :)

Still half a chance I'll be at Preston Park for the Velothon loopy madness thing, calf has eased up significantly in last couple of days (and if ever there is a race that's easy to drop from if it plays up, this is it). With a 9am start I'm planning to get to the game after it.............

Heard nothing but good reports about the Poppy Half from clubmates.

You can't miss out on 72 laps and a bit of the velothon.. You simply can't!

The last 3 months have been one niggling injury after another. The latest is a sore left achilles which just becomes extremely sore when running, so much so that only lasted 10 mins tonight. I have rested it for a few days, ice, self massage, (trying to rub out any nodules). It's not anything like a tear or partial rupture, just very niggling & preventing me from running.

Anyone else have any quick fix it remedies?

Straight leg calf stretch, perhaps?
Using the stairs?
The pain is usually from a tight calf. search for the stretch or I can tell you, if you need.

Same as me. It's my left achilles, where it connects to the back of the heel, slightly towards the outside of the heel and the area is very very tender at times. I managed it and ran with it for a year but aggravated it in my last marathon, it swelled up noticeably. I am now taking time out to try and fully repair it. It's slow progress. It was worse, the occasional sharp shooting and "hot" pain in the tendon itself has now gone leaving this tenderness at the back of the heel. I'm stretching my calf, rolling it and doing heel drops twice a day.

Yep, exactly the same. Left achilles too. To be honest I've had so many calf injuries over the years I've lost count & it also affects my achilles too usually. I am just getting over a tear in my right calf, (3 months ago) & now this achilles flares up on my left, typical!

If I was home I'd go to see a physio I use in Hove who is really excellent & normally has me up & running quicker than usual when this issue strikes.

Judy Eaton, she has a web-site with her contact details. 40 quid a pop but well worth it.

I was at her party last year. Live opposite. Maybe you have been one of the many hobblers I have seen limping in there! A good reputation but I have my man Jesus so have never been myself.

Yeah she's great, like I say I'd be straight to see her but I'm not home till Jan 23rd, so rest & stretching seem the only option.
So is Jesus your physio, or is it a bit deeper than that?!

Sports injury man. He has worked on Michele Kuipers, the former Dutch Marine, after the car accident and has got me back on the road or pool numerous times over the last 10 years. STH too.

Another social 10k with my mate today. He's entered in the Brighton Half now. I can run further than him, he can run faster as evidenced by me losing the sprint finish :lolol:

Sadly I am definitely going to have to see Jesus and I'm expecting a cease and desist from him. Pain in my heel when I woke this morning which is a classic sign of plantar fasciitis. It wasn't there during the run but immediately after a similar thing happened to Sunday; foot cramp, shooting pain in the outside of the ankle and front of the shin that I'm too scared to look up. Bollocks.

I don't have much experience with physios but I saw Judy a couple of times last year when my knee was bad and she certainly helped me recover in time for the marathon.

God luck with that. (Typo).
He has only failed once to get me back within 24 hours when I had anterior fibula ligament damage from ankle to knee. I reckon he might get yours sorted.
All this talk of physios has got me nursing my ankle. Sprained it on a Parkrun back in August. Was sore after every run that month. That's why I decided a 5 week lay off would be good. However, after every run since the rest the ankle still hurts. Not enough to stop running but persistent. Ice, rollers, balls and foot circles are in alternate use. Only worry is if it will take the increase in mileage over the next few months. I know Jesus or Judy are there if no improvement.

I recommend Tom Goom at the physio rooms at the Falmer Health and Racquet club - you don't need to be a member. He specialises in running injuries and sorted out my persistent ankle problem earlier this year. He's a runner himself so understands that you want to keep running, or get back to it as soon as possible.

Spent the last 7 months sitting on my arse whilst studying for a work related exam, have just started to move again and fancied a spot of running (more like jogging) so have started off with the mobile NHS app 'couch to 5k' programme. Really enjoying it (only on 2nd week) and hope to be up to 10k by Spring next year

Good news.

Four stretches

1. Sitting with affected foot over other knee, push top of foot and toes forward until you feel outside of calf and hold for 20 secs.
2. Normal calf stretch holding wall
3. Still holding walll bring back (affected) foot so toe is in line with heel of front (good) football and go down using your knees
4. Affected foot in to wall toe up and push in to wall, feeling the back of the calf stretch, agonisingly in my case.
