My standard answer to electronic shifting naysayers is:-

'ah you say that now, but I bet you'll change your mind if you had a go with some'.
(Which is why I don't want to have a go)

I don't get that sense with disc brakes, as I've never felt properly let down by my brakes.
I had 'moments' last winter, but that was down to conditions and not specifically the brakes.

That review uses all the words I want to here and I don't really have any aesthetic hang up.

I'm in the process of seeing if Evans have a Jamis Renegade Expert in Sussex to look at.
Although I can't afford that either but it's less money I haven't got!!

I'm the same on disc brakes. The only problems I've generally had braking are a bad surface where I've locked the rear brake - surely disc brakes are just going to make this happen more often?

I like that Jamis bike, but for an "adventure" bike that seat stay doesn't half look thin...

I've got hydraulic disc brakes on my mountain bike and have found them pretty awkward to setup. The clearance between the pads and the disc is minimal, so the slightest discrepancy in the disc will result in rubbing. I once accidentally applied the brake while I didn't have the wheel in which resulted in them getting completely messed up and needing to be bled.

Mechanical brakes are pretty easy to tinker with and adjust when needed.. Except for the integrated rear brake on my TT bike which was invented by the Devil himself.

I may well have just gone off the Jamis, having properly read this:-

Viewed from the front, the fork legs are noticeably asymmetric, with the lower left leg being thicker in order to deal with the brake forces.

I very much doubt I'd be able to cope with a lack of symmetry

Anyone watching the Vuelta? There is an interview with Nibali on right now, he is not exactly being contrite. Losing a lot of respect for him here.

Hello. Mind if I join the North Stand Geeks Strava group? I'm not exactly going to contribute a lot to it stats-wise, and I sit in the West Upper (I'm in my mid 40s, the North Stand days are long gone), but, hey, it'd be nice to compare and see how I'm doing...

Last week I took a trip up Mont Ventoux.

Whilst there, I decided to leave a little NSC tribute to Tommy Simpson.

A 'geeks' cap is now on the memorial, firmly anchored by a large rock. I thought my spare cap would make a nice tribute to the gentleman.

But what he being verbally assaulted by Matt Rendell while attempting to go to the toilet?

No, it was that pretty Spanish lady that Eurosport use. It seems she finds it easier to get interviews than Rendell for some reason?

So yesterday Nibali, today Bouhanni, except Bouhanni has managed to stay in the race.

Brings to mind the old Jamaican proverb....The higher the monkey climb the me him expose.

Not sure what Granny would have to say more specifically about trial by internet though. She probably never watched a bike race either to be fair.

It was a little different. The sticky bottle, without drastic acceleration and not taking him off the front of a group.

Yep, I know all that, but the point still stands. Cycling ninjas like Zubeldia never ever seem to have the camera on them, along with over half the peloton (unless in the break). Those riders can get away with a lot more as a result.

Ha, sport is littered with people who were essentially punished for their stupidity!
