Couldn't help but laugh at the email........

BRIGHTON SIGN REAL MADRID STRIKER!!

Should have said; 'Brighton obtain injured un-proven jock who's never played a professional game and hasnt played in England before' but I guess that doesnt have the same ring to it.

That said good luck to the guy. Hope he's quality.

Fair comment but just imagine the reaction of other Championship clubs if little ol' Brighton have picked up a diamond for next to nothing. They'd be well cheesed off, especially Derby given their Madrid connections.

Inevitably the most difficult and expensive commodity to acquire - and we don't seem willing or able to invest in this calibre of player any more.

Any more ? Since when ? Ulloa ? If so we spent a very similar fee and likely even higher wages to secure what we'd hoped was a 20 goal a season striker only 12 months ago.
And our investment this season in new players isn't over so how can you judge ?. Various reports say Hughton is still chasing 4-5 new players (even after the last couple of days) with all sorts of fees (and wages no doubt) being bandied about.

It would be great to have another striker and a winger signed up before the Forest game. I might even be confident of getting something out of the game then. :)

I don't understand the hyperbole on here and in the media it seems about how BHA announced this signing... It was done no differently to any other signing we have made this year, yes - it states "BRIGHTON SIGN REAL MADRID STRIKER" - but that is fact, Real held his registration and he plays as a striker, we bought a striker from Real Madrid.

Is it misleading? If you were on a different planet and thought we were buying Ronaldo, then maybe... but look at other media outlets, they are all saying we signed the kid from Real Madrid as well... what else exactly do you expect the club to say?

This is smelly. Does he have a false leg that everyone knows about other than us?

I think some Championship clubs will have had their noses pushed out of joint a bit by this signing. It's good to see that we appear to have stolen a march on our rivals. It doesn't tend to happen very often.

You think ?

I'd suggest most cat 1 + 2 acadamies sign players dubbed "the next big thing" every year.

I'd be more excited if the kid was 15 but that said its well worth a punt. At 19 years old if hes decent then he will be pushing the first team very quickly. If not then it was worth the risk.

People are getting carried away a bit but look at most posts about any unknown signings we have made and you will always get him built up to silly levels on here. Sometimes a player that is absolute poor will still be being built up until he's released. This kid has Madrid links so the hype is more.

Its a risk , nothing more , nothing less. I'd say keep level headed and see how it works out. This signing shouldn't impact what we urgently need for the first team.

We've never signed a proven Championship striker, or (to my knowledge) been seriously in the market for one, that's all I'm saying. We've had some expensive punts, some of which have worked (Ulloa) some of which haven't (CMS / Baldock), but never on anyone who's got a goalscoring track record at this level.

Our investment in new players this season may well not be over, but I can judge because I know we'll be bucking the trend if we do actually sign someone who's regularly scored goals in the Championship. That's not the demographic we're ever in the market for.

Absolutely this.

Harper doesn't bolster our threadbare strikeforce at all. Not yet. Whilst it would be lovely Roy of the Rovers stuff, we simply cannot expect a kid who's never played a first team game in his life to arrive here and suddenly be the answer to our chronic goal allergy.

We need more. Now.

I think its a little early to judge Baldock, the clueless Finn played him out of posistion and then unfortunatly became injured.

Is it possible people's judgments are skewed on hearing the word 'Scottish'? How differently might the story read if this talented lad had been totally, authentically Spanish'?

Look on the bright side!! This boy may only in reality be Scottish. But at least he's not a goalkeeper.

This is true, but again just like with CMS, we're *hoping* he can bag 20 goals a season in the Championship. He wasn't signed on the basis that he'd ever actually managed it before, or anywhere near. He doesn't have that track record. Those type of players always come at a premium we're not prepared to stretch to, we're simply never in the market for that. So its a case of taking a punt on someone who's done it in L1, or bringing in someone from abroad.

Sometimes it works, more often it doesn't. Maybe if Hughton has the courage to play TWO up front, then perhaps Hemed and Baldock can strike up a partnership and feed off each other, that has to be the hope this season as it stands with the current personnel.

Bournemouth & Burnley got promoted without a 20 goal scorer. What they did have was several players who could score 10 or more each.
